Sorry, son, those days are long past. MidwayUSA is selling Winchester FMJ 147 Grain Full Metal Jacket Case of 200 (10 Boxes of 20) for about $150. No longer cheap, but about the best deal going.
Some places do try to sell Indian stuff, usually on stripper clips - STAY AWAY. Really crappy ammo, bad brass, lots of FTFire, pre-dented even. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
I did see some Lithuanian NATO .308 stuff on a website a few months ago, did not order, don't remember where.

Iwould be hesatant at shooting NATO from a .308 gun. Contrary to urban legend the NAto is hotter and less exact. .308 from a NATO is OK. Sort of like 5.56 and .223

Can't quote the source, but I've read that SAAMI has no real distinction between .308 and 7.62x51 NATO. Cases are virtually identical, unlike the .223 and 5.56 where the 5.56 is slightly longer (or is it the other way around?). All my books are still packed from the move, so I can't get the sources off, but this is the first I have ever heard of a .308/7.62 NATO warning.

Not tonight, but I'll dig up the articles.
I,m starting to get a 'few cups' into my b'day. ;D

Happy B-Day Haz, Have another cup for those of us who join you, and wish you well.
As far as .308 Shop around Ammoman.com, Ableammo.com, Midway, Etc,.. are all pretty close give or take shipping included or free shipping.
I'm really Pi**** about .45 colt, (and the other calibers), which is unreal, I'm ready to take a course in home reloading, buy the books and equip. and make my own target rounds.
I don't want to make "wildcat rounds" or anything SAMMI would not approve of, just standard rounds that will be more cost effective to shoot. Keep the good stuff for other things,..
Good luck, its kind of like gas prices, they truly stink, but my lawn mower still has to have it. :-[

A very happy b-day to you HAZ ;) may your main mast always serve yee.
The 7.62x51 is a lower pressure round than the saami .308 winchester, that's why you should not shoot sporting ammunition in M1a's or M1's, they will bend the op rod. Bolt action based on the same cartridge is usually no problem.
Hurts to say it people, if you can find .223/556 for under 30 cents a round, buy it, .308/7.62x51 for under .50 cents a round, buy it. As days go by, 40 - 60 cents a round may be the good deal. Devide the dollars by the round count for cents a round.
EG... 1000 rounds divided by 100 dollars + 10 cents a round. The good old days.

Happy bday to haz!!

Check the ARMOREY they have a helluva good deal on ammo right now. If I am right I read on an another post or forum that a guy wanted to get a Spanish 7.62 and wanted to shoot .308 in it and was told no because the .308 was of a higher pressure than 7.62 Also beware of modern NATO 5.56 as I have been told by a SAW operator that SAW ammo is has a higher pressure that the ammo that is used in M16's.
And HAPPY B-DAY HAZCAT HAVE A CUP OR TWO OR THREE FOR US!

When I can't make it to my local gun store, which has good prices (Jensen Arms), I usually order from ammoman.com. Good prices, and the listed price is the shipped price. I just got some 175gr Federal Match (about the same as the M118) from him. Not cheap plinking ammo to be sure, but I wanted to stock up.
