Title: D.C.’s crime solution: Be a victim

By Emily Miller

The Washington Times

Washington residents are up in arms, though not armed. With violent crime up 40 percent in the first two months of the year - including double the number of robberies at gunpoint - residents are looking for ways to protect themselves. Elected officials and police have no solution.

--SNIP--

That spurred Mr. Portman to attend a community meeting on the increased violence, which was held last week by D.C. Council member Mary M. Cheh, Ward 3 Democrat. Mr. Portman asked officials why the city makes it so difficult for law-abiding residents to register guns and refuses to allow them to carry weapons outside of the home.

As you can see in the video below, Paul Quander, the District’s deputy mayor for public safety and justice, responded that crime victims should give the criminals what they want. Mr. Portman protested, saying, “But how do you know you’re going live and survive? You’re completely at their mercy.”

Mr. Quander thinks victimhood is preferable to self-defense. “The problem is, if you are armed, it escalates the situation,” Mr. Quander told residents. “It is much better, in my opinion, to be scared, to be frightened, and even if you have to be, to be injured, but to walk away and survive. You’ll heal, and you can replace whatever was taken away.”

Kristopher Baumann, head of the D.C. police union, also was at Ms. Cheh’s meeting. “Having the deputy mayor for public safety publicly announce that being victimized is something we, as residents of the District, must accept is disgraceful,” he told The Washington Times. “At the same time, Mr. Quander failed to offer a single short- or long-term solution to fighting crime in this city.”

The police officer added that, “This is a mayor who, as chair of the Council, cut 400 police positions and failed to enact tougher laws for repeat offenders.  Now we know why. His crime fighting strategy apparently involves giving up and just living with being scared. Accepting violent crime and victimization is not an acceptable trade-off for living in the District.”

WTH??

I guess this clown can see into the minds of ALL CRIMINALS and knows that they will just let EVERYONE walk away. What a boob.

If the situation IS escalated, then I want it to escalate into a gunfight (I have an opportunity to win)....and NOT a murder(s).
The deck is stacked against us as it is... a 50/50 chance is better than NO chance.

These schmucks just don't get it.   >:(

Yep.  The Schmuck doesn't realise that some criminals out there aren't interested in letting you live at all.  Some are in it for the thrill of the hunt and kill.   ::)

I think Mr. Quander needs to stroll about the District of Columbia, at all hours of the day and night, unescorted, no security, (which I'm sure he has), in his fancy suits and shoes, nice coat, and go out and about meeting his constituents that elected this assclown.

That way he can get a "taste" of what his District has become.

but after he's mugged, beaten and robbed, he'll be cold, but he will hopefully heal, and take comfort that he has more money and clothes, and take comfort that at least he didn't escalate the situation.

Who cares if this asshat heals. His corpse will serve to educate his replacement.

If Mr. Quander has an armed security guard or carries himself, this is the time that fact should be broadcast.

Hypocrisy this great might even be evident and distasteful to Liberals.

It is all really so simple.  If you don't/can't oppose the common hoodlum, then you wont oppose your government.  Isn't that what these "leaders" want?

And some bad guys simply prefer to leave no witnesses.

At least I want a fighting chance to go home to my wife.  She's not "all that" any more...  But she puts up with my cussedness.

Sheesh...

SO!  (from Breitbart)   The criminal has already laid the ground rules.  You stuff or your life....and possibly your life anyway.    I would contend that and armed populace actually de-escalates the situation.   I point to the number of times the display of a firearm has done so without firing a shot or "escalating" the situation.

WRONG!  Robbery doesn't just take away things.  It takes away, dignity and freedom.  It sets the stage for even more criminal activity as law breakers are emboldened by the lack of resistance and the low "cost" of being a thief.

I agree with other comments.   If Mr. Quander believes so strongly in this, then let him go about unarmed and un-escorted.   That would be putting his life where his mouth is.

I just noticed that this piece was by Emily Miller - she is very 2A friendly.  She is the reporter that chronicled all of the hoopla (aka "bullsh!t") she had to go throught to get a gun permit in DC.

Keep up the good work, Emily.

+10 !  Gun Control isn't about guns.
It's about Control.
