So I lost my nerve. I was telling myself for weeks I wouldn't buy any guns that didn't fit a specific need. Its a budget thing. Went to a local shop and saw a XDm and figured I'd see if they are all they're cracked up to be. Loved it. So guess what can home with me... A new XDm 9mm. I'm going to shoot it in IDPA in New Mexico next week and see how it does.

When I was going to gun shows something would come home with me about every other show. That is one of the main reasons I don't go to gun shows anymore.
That and that fact that they have been taken over by mouth-breathing, knuckle dragging, know nothing, wannabe, general public, type of yahoos. If you go to a gun show anymore plan on being swept by a firearm about every ten seconds and hearing some comments that are so incredibly stupid (not merely uninformed) you have to wonder if the speaker can even dress themselves. :P

I hear that! I am only displeased with the sights. The rear notch is pretty small which makes the front sight hard to acquire. Debating what I want to put on it. I figure if I can get this set the way I want a 45 version will soon follow. I know... ANOTHER GUN TO FEED!

... stick the slide in a milling machine, and thin the front sight down to .090"... bead blast and a dab of Dichropan blue

Why bother when you can just slide the old sights out of their dovetail and replace them with no risk of trashing your slide . ::)

That's the first thing I did with all the XD's and Glocks is change out the front sight. I like FOs Red front and Green rear. YMMV
BUT: XDs are known in the industry for having the hardest to "slide out" sights of any gun. Even with the sight press they're hard to get out. One problem you'll never have on an XD is sights drifting.

For me it's a lot easier to file the rear sight than it is to get someone to mill the front sight. Just don't overdo it like I did.

jumbofrank... exactly ;D

A good machinist could kiss the edges of the front sight and you'd never know he was in there except for the missing material :D Ask me how I know... ;)

After 25 years I'll just say "shit happens".

The difference between good machinists and great machinists? Great machinist can hide ALL of their mistakes ;D
