Title: Double Barrel 1911?
Post by: kbwood1008 on March 16, 2012, 12:40:29 PM
I was sent this link to article about a double barrel .45.
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/have-you-seen-the-first-ever-double-barrel-45-caliber-pistol-ready-to-hit-the-shelves/

I followed the link in the article to company web site.  The pistol looks both interesting and scary at the same time.  Has anybody seen or handled it?

It's a waste that may have been fun for the builder.
It fires both barrels each shot so it is only an 8 shot at double the size, weight, complexity, and ammo cost of a normal 1911.
But like I said, he probably had fun building it.

According to Guns & Ammo, it is available with either single trigger firing both barrels or two independent triggers.

Doesn't matter, there's only one sear, and one slide.
You either get two rounds with each shot or you eject one loaded case.

They said that they can separate the slides so it would be single or double, but they aren't offering it at this time.

The individual triggers control each firing pin, but with a single slide you do waste one cartridge if you only squeeze on trigger.

Tell you what, I have two 1911's and a roll of duct tape.  I don't need this toy  ;D

As Jeff Cooper has said... "It is a solution looking for a problem."

I posted the classic Saturday Night Live Steve Martin/Bill Murray skit video from 1979, with the classic "What The Hell Is That?" bit, on the other post regarding this "oddity"....

I am still wondering,.....

If you fire something chambered in 45 ACP because having to shoot someone twice would be silly, wouldn't this design, by definition be silly?!?!  Just sayin'.....

Must say that I am not impressed with this firearm at all. Could you imagine some yahoo carrying this thing? Get a mount and put it on my Jeep? LOL

Something about one trigger pull and two bullets raises a flag....

At the absolute least, it doubles your ammo cost.

And at the other end of the spectrum BATF could call it a machine gun or destructive device and jail everyone over the $200 tax stamp that has fired, touched or looked at it.

Woe to the poor sap who happens to use it in a self-defense situation.....

Can you see a young liberal anti gun DA love to describe to a jury this weapon of mass destruction????

Cool bit of machining and engineering, I would have thought Sons Of Guns after the three AR's running on one gas system, was creative, this was the next step....

I would have done it with G17's....

.45's don't need doubles.... ::)
