Post by: MikeBjerum on March 28, 2012, 08:26:34 PM

Earl Scruggs, 88, died of natural causes this morning at a Nashville, TN hospital.

This is just one video, but I enjoyed it.

Born in Shelby, NC....A true picker...Perfected the three finger banjo style copied by so many today....A rock, foundation, and standard for American Southern music.

RIP, and Thank You Earl....

With Steve Martin, who is a very accomplished banjo player,...with all the gratitude to Earl Scruggs....

Not sure how to embed these, or what ever it is you do to make the appear ready to play.
Earl has broad appeal and talent.  He played with a broad spectrum of talented musicians.

I don't have much of an ear for music, but I love this song and album.  The collection of talent on this album is mind boggling for a simple man.

I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time, and I have never been able to pat my head and rub my belly at the same time.  How the heck can an 85 year old man pick with three fingers on one hand and run his other fingers up and down the frets like that  :o

It isn't right unless it's Lester Flat picking with him.

Roy Clark, a musical wizard on the banjo and a variety of instruments as well, credited Earl with the  passion to just play from the heart and folks will understand.

Too bad a bunch, not all, of modern music hasn't learned that lesson.
