I know we all are aware of the misuse of this phrase, but it does all come down to "It's for the children." Here is how it should be done.
Army sergeant who gave life to save Afghan child being flown home for burial
Sgt. Dennis Weichel, 29, died in Afghanistan last week after he dashed into the path of an armored fighting vehicle to scoop up the little girl, who had darted back into the roadway to pick up shell casings, according to the Army. Weichel, a Rhode Island National Guardsman, was riding in the convoy in Laghman Province in eastern Afghanistan when he jumped out to save the girl, who was unhurt.

We as Americans care, and are humbled by their sacrifice everyday. Too bad the political system in Afghanistan will be an ungrateful and thankless bunch of corrupt tribal savages...
So much I could say but will refrain.
RIP Sgt. God Bless You and Your Family.

Perhaps the little girl's family will care.

Most of our media will never mention this story because it doesn't make America look like a bunch of bastards.
It doesn't fit the socialist narrative.
-
Yeah...the story would more likely be about a soldier who man handled a little girl to prevent her from salvaging trash the soldiers left discarded on the countryside in order to feed her family.

Doubtful considering the value those folks put on female's of their tribe!

No mention up here.

From my experience following Vietnam, our community will blast Sgt. Weichel and our country because we left that brass lay on the ground and enticed the locals into danger.
No good deed will ever go unhated in this political climate :'(

I thought of that too...thinking of how the one child per couple law in China has resulted it the killing of new born girls so the couple can try again for a boy. ....but maybe they will care....but it doesn't matter concerning Sgt. Weichel...his act stands on it's own.
