The Trayvon Martin case has exposed some of the media's worst tendencies--selective editing, rushing to judgment, stoking anger for ratings and page views--and it's taken more than fake photos, the incendiary stumbles of Geraldo Rivera and Spike Lee and verbal clashes between Piers Morgan and Toure to shine a light on them.
Here are three recent, troubling examples:
1. After ABC News aired surveillance video of George Zimmerman, Martin's shooter, entering a police precinct without any apparent injuries, the Daily Caller treated the tape like a Zapruder film, enhancing still images from the video and concluding that it found "what may be an injury to the back of his head." The site's photo "analysis" of the back of Zimmerman's head--replete with yellow Photoshopped arrows--"indicates what appears to be a vertical laceration or scar several inches long."
Keep in mind, this is the same Daily Caller that published 152 pages of what the conservative site claims were Martin's tweets--which, if they were, prove that Martin was a pretty typical high school male, preoccupied with girls, sex and getting out of class early.
2. NBC told the Washington Post that it has launched an internal investigation of the "Today" show's editorial process after its morning show aired an edited conversation between George Zimmerman and a 911 dispatcher recorded moments before the shooting. The investigation came after Fox News and others pointed out that the network spliced two parts of the call together, making it appear as if Zimmerman had said, "This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black." In reality, Zimmerman was answering a dispatcher's question:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy--is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
3. In an flailing effort to break news in a month-old shooting, CBS News aired an interview with Richard Kurtz, the funeral director who handled Trayvon Martin's burial.
"There were no physical signs like there had been a scuffle," Kurtz declared, which the network said proves Zimmerman's claims of a violent encounter with Martin before the shooting are false. "The hands--I didn't see any knuckles, bruises or what have you, and that is something we would have covered up if it would have been there. He looked perfectly normal to me when he came in and the story just does not make sense that he was in this type of scuffle or fight in anything that we could see."
Except, he said, the gunshot wound.

The MSM "selectively edited" a crucial bit of evidence to change and hype the public message? ???
After the Dan Rather, Bush forged documents regarding his NG service? Really? (see photo above)...
as for the African-American family/local Funeral Director?????
I'll wait for the autopsy report by the County coroner, and the ballistics angles and more credible sources...

Somehow stumbled onto George Snuffleupagus news program on Sunday morning. Among the guests were George Will, Ann Coulter and Van Jones! It was pretty comical watching the two of them school Jones on the misconceptions masterminded by those in the media. Will was on point every time he opened his mouth. Coulter, sitting next to Jones, was bristling every time the commie opened his mouth!
Google it and watch the program, it's worth the effort..

Thanks Timothy, I heard it was on but missed it....3/4 of the way through it , you can see a bit of the Van Jones/Alinsky come out but kept in check by an otherwise factual Coulter...
An otherwise decent discussion from the big gov't (to solve our ill's Left), and the get the gov't the hell out of the way right.....
I think George Will gets it. But he too, is not very impressed with Romney,,....and I can't blame him for that....
Jones is a smart and smooth talker, but just beneath the surface, is a sneaky dude, and motivates many a "useful idiot"...
Right out of the Left's playbook....

Trayvon Martin police report reveals Zimmerman was ‘bleeding from the nose and back of head’
Yes, saw that this morning with little or nothing on the networks mentioning it!

Florida State Attorney: Martin Lawyer Lies
Posted on April 3, 2012 by Dan Zimmerman
A full-blown pissing match has broken out between Florida State Attorney Norman Wolfinger (the prosecutor who initially decided that the Trayvon Martin shooting was self defense) and the Martin family’s media mad attorney Benjamin Crump (above). In an April 2 letter to the Justice Department, Crump alleges that the lead homicide investigator on the night Martin was killed had doubts about shooter George Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense . . .
According to Crump, State Attorney Wolfinger and Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee overruled the investigator and decided not to charge Zimmerman with manslaughter. The letter asks for a Justice Department investigation into the State Attorney’s decision not to charge and prosecute.
State Attorney Wolfinger’s not sitting still for any of it . . .
Like Chief Lee, Wolfinger has since removed himself from the case in the midst of the category four sturm und drang hurricane that’s hit Florida and the national media over the handling of the case. But that didn’t prevent him from responding, as reported by clickorlando.com, to Crump’s letter with an almost equal and opposite reaction.
Wolfinger said he was “outraged by the outright lies contained in the letter…” and he, “encourages the Justice Department to investigate and document that no such meeting or communication occurred.”
“I have been encouraging those spreading the irresponsible rhetoric to stop and allow State Attorney Angela Corey to complete her work,” Wolfinger said. “Another falsehood distributed to the media does nothing to forward that process.”
In the letter, Crump also says that Serino filed an affidavit stating that he did not find Zimmerman’s statements credible in light of the circumstances and facts surrounding the shooting.
Yet another Martin family attorney, Natalie Jackson, says her clients just want to be kept in the loop. As thegrio.com reports, Jackson says they
“have a right to ask questions, since nobody is giving them answers, and that’s what they’re doing.”Jackson said the family is “asking the same questions that the American people are asking.” She added, in a pointed rebuke of Wolfinger, who, an anonymous source told theGrio, personally met with the chief on the night of the shooting, February 26th, after which the decision to release Zimmerman was made: “the family is getting the same information the public is getting, through the media, and that’s not how it’s supposed to be. They should be getting it from the source.”
Jackson said Wolfinger’s office failed to keep the family informed when he had the case, and added, “the only source who can get answers for this family at this point, is the Justice Department.”
Sounds like what we have here is a failure to communicate. And few branches of the federal government have done better at open and honest communication recently than Eric Holder’s Justice Department. What could possibly go wrong?
