Title: New Years Eve wil never be the same again
Post by: MikeBjerum on April 18, 2012, 04:02:46 PM
Just read that Dick Clark has died at the age of 82.

I hadn't seen or heard him for a few years, and this past New Year's Eve I watched him - That was a painful experience.  Everyone needs to know or be told when it is time to quit.

Dick had a great career, and provided a lot of entertainment for millions.  I will always appreciate his Saturday afternoon, American Bandstand.

He was better this last New Year than in the past few.  His speech was improving somewhat...

Watched Bandstand on occasion but maybe I was a little too rock and roll for mainstream pop in my youth.  By the mid sixties I was already listening to the Dead, The Doors, Derick and Dominoes, Hendrix, etc...  He certainly made a difference in the industry though!

RIP Mr. Clark!

Watched him on Saturdays as a kid/early teen, Madonna, The Doors, Rolling Stones, even made a premiere on AB. I thought he was older than 82....

Quite a career, he sold his trademarks, copyrights, and music holdings to an equity firm in 2001/2? for around $175,000,000 dollars....

Not bad for a guy named Dick....

Spent many a New Years Eve watching, and he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame.

An American Icon for sure. Kinda tough watching his appearances after his stroke.

Thank You Mr. Clark.

RIP

Madonna ?
Jeez, when I watched it was the Momma's and the Poppa's, and Paul Revere and the Raiders.
But I also saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.  ;D

People our age or older wouldn't put Madonna and the Stones or Doors in the same sentence!   ;D

Madonna is a hack, the others are just stoned out, old or dead!   :D

Old minds do some strange things.... ;D

I vaguely remember some AB stuff on TV, PBS I think  ;D, but I wasn't born until '71 and by the time I could listen to the radio at home (I  listened to Kiss & Ozzy at my buddy's house from the time I could ride my bike around the block) I had little interest in pop-until I realized girls like it and by then AB was pretty much gone.

I did watch Dick's New Years Eve show when I was home for the event though and like it was said by the OP he should have been told when the time had come to turn off the microphone and pass the torch a few years back.

RIP Mr. Clark

At one time it seemed like Dick Clark would last forever.

I remember seeing him talking to the audience who had been commenting on how he still looked the same as he did on Bandstand.

A lady in the front row asked him to bend down and she looked at the top of his head and said.   "You're not even getting balled". to which Clark replied  "You can tell that just by looking at my hair?"   ;D ;D

I'm a little younger than some of you.  I don't think Anthrax, Slayer, or Metallica ever played on American Bandstand.

Still the loss of an icon, though.  His show helped bring music to the masses.

Can someone find the SNL spoof of the nurse helping Dick Clark? Betcha can't ........

Tip: Hidden camera in Dick Clark's closet, nurse is seen assisting a feeble old man across the visible camera shot a couple of times...

Than sounds of power tools, and such,.....and Dick Clark emerges as his normal self ready for the next episode of AB.....

I tried to find it,.....but failed,..... but it does exist...

Saw a poster on FB a couple of days ago -

OK, so Dick Clark died, and now we can't celebrate New Year's.

Well played, Mayans, well played!

It's the end of the world as we knew it.
