A 25-year-old Mandan man has been arrested for trying to bring a loaded handgun through airport security.

Police were called to the Bismarck Airport at 11:55 a.m. Monday, said Bismarck Police Sgt. Mark Buschena.

Airport security personnel had seen the outline of a handgun in the man’s carry-on bag on the security X-ray and removed a 45 caliber handgun from the man’s bag, Buschena said.

The man had two magazines with him and both were loaded, Buschena said. One of the magazines was in the gun but there was no round in the chamber.

Police arrested the man for a misdemeanor concealed weapons violation, Buschena said. The man was taken to the police department where he was processed and released. The man had been scheduled to board a United Airlines flight to Denver.

“It’s my understanding he went back to the airport,” Buschena said.

Buschena said police did not think the man was a threat.

“Whether he (brought the gun with him) intentionally or not, that’s something for the fact finders to decide,” he said.

I have reached the point that I can't use dual purpose bags for dual purpose anymore  :'(  Since trip one it has failed the explosive material wipes, but I've always gotten through after a fashion.  However, I have learned that just dumping out all the empty brass does not clean it well enough - I occasionally will find a live round tucked in under a divider or in a fold of material.
