House GOP leaders said Friday they are pursuing a plan to hold Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and the Justice Department in contempt for “stonewalling” them over information regarding the administration’s failed Fast and Furious gun-tracking program.
GOP Rep. Darrell Issa confirmed to Fox News that House Speaker John Boehner gave him and others on his House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform the authority to drafted a contempt of Congress resolution.
“We have a few other options (but) to a great extent we’ve been stonewalled by the Justice Department,” said Issa, R-Calif.
The news of the document and the extended meeting in Boehner’s office was reported first by The Los Angeles Times.
“We have issued a subpoena,” Utah GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a member of the oversight committee, said earlier on Fox News. “We have bent over backwards to be patient and take time. (Holder) is leading us down a path where we have no other choice.”
The resolution, if approved by the GOP-led House, could force Holder to release thousands of pages of documents related to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ program.
Holder and other Justice Department officials say they are cooperating with Congress’ investigators.
The Fast and Furious program was run by the ATF’s Phoenix office from 2009 until early 2011. It allowed illegal gun purchases with the expectation of tracking the weapons to Mexican drug cartel leaders. However, hundreds of guns disappeared, with some eventually turning up at crime scenes in Mexico.
Issa said investigator still want to know the names of those worked in the program.
Two were found where U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was shot to death south of Tucson in December 2010.
A number of illegal straw purchasers have been indicted, and two others are charged in Terry's slaying, according to the Times.

I read somewhere the other day that BHO's desk isn't big enough for the stack of pardons he'll sign on the way out. It was also pointed out that the Senate commitees are waiting on indictments so that he can't pardon them.

Should be jail, like Scooter Libby, Ollie North, and the Watergate crew.
Probably will be nothing like Clinton. >:(

If Holder isn't confined till he complies, it won't make a hill of beans wirth of difference. His whole thing has been "What are you gonna do?"

Right up until BHO Pardons start rolling out in abundance.....But if he resigns, in disgrace, at least its a start....I doubt it though, he's doubled down against Issa & Grassley....

Was just able to get back to this, TW. Are you saying there is NO PENALTY specified for being in contempt of congress? If that's the case then I'll admit here that I hold most of Congress in the highest contempt.

No Pecos, Lying to Congress, Conspiracy, Obstruction of a Congressional Investigation, Heck with Holder, I'd charge him with accessory to murder, charges and convictions (keyword), have sent more than a few .gov folks "up the river" to a federal prison...
Clinton lost his law degree with the Monica/Lying To Congress dust up....Big Whoop, at $100,000 a speech, he's fine without it.
However, this is an election year, and the contempt charges (I'm like Herknav I'll believe it when I see it), will only kick the can down the road...BHO will pardon him regardless, the Republicans want a resignation prior to the election, and Holder is digging in cause he knows he'll get a pardon.

With Justice Department officials refusing all interview requests to date, CBS News requested numerous public documents through the Freedom of Information Act.
So far, all of the requests that have been answered have been denied in part or in full.
This week, we received a partial response to a request made more than a year ago. It asked for communications involving "Project Gunrunner," the umbrella program for Fast and Furious, from 2010 through April 2011. Specifically, it sought any communications to which any of the following top Justice officials were a party: Attorney General Eric Holder; Lanny Breuer, Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division; Kevin Carwile, chief of the Capital Case Unit; and Deputy Assistant Attorney Generals Bruce Schwarz and Kenneth Blanco.
The response includes mostly-blank pages.

What a country! If you lie to congress, refuse to appear before a congressional committee, refuse even to give a congressional inquiry any information you may have, there's nothing they can do? Presidential pardon be d***ed! What a country! I love it! If you're the chief law enforcement officer in this country you can do whatever you please and no one can touch you? No wonder so many people want to come here! What a country! Maybe I should move to Syria, at least the despot over there admit what they are.

No Bill, they can throw you in jail .
Lying to Congress is a criminal offense. It's what Ollie North and Scooter Libby were convicted of.
But they only enforce it against Republicans.
Democrats don't do anything but lie so they get a pass like Clinton and Elena Kagan.
Same with paying your taxes , Republicans like Agnew lose their office and go to prison, Democrats like Giethner become Treasury Secretary.

I knew I should have turned Democrat! I got into the wrong line of work. If when I was younger I'd gotten into politics I could be filthy rich and immune from any prosecution. WHAT A COUNTRY!
