I came across this site on death rates in the world by specific causes. It starts with my second favorite subject, after Guns that is. Alcohol! By the the looks of it alcohol is a lot less dangerous than breathing so,
DRINK UP

The top 5 are all central American countries, that distill pig and farm urine with little or no regulation,..so that makes sense...
Russia was 35th? I would have expected more, Norway is about where I expect it....
The French...Well,...their French and drink "almost" the same swill as Central America....better cheese though...
At least we beat Somalia, and other Islamic countries, as alcohol is harder to acquire. But I defer to my Central American reference. ;)

technically, most Russians die not from the alcohol, but from freezing to death when they pass out on the way home... Damn!
so how do rate that death? make it home and it won't kill ya.

How the hell do you drown in Uganda?

How the hell do you drown in Uganda?

How the hell do you drown in Uganda?
Uganda is jungle, not desert.

I read somewhere that 100% of people who breath air die. And 100% of people who drink alcohol die. So I say F-it what does it matter?
;D

The leading cause of death is birth.
It has a 100% mortality rate rate.
Any one who has ever been born either has, or will, die from it.

How the hell do you drown in Uganda?
Southern Uganda contains 1/2 of the largest lake in Africa, Lake Victoria!

Ever watch River Monsters? ;D
Seen a few pics of some monster sturgeon up in the Columbia and even in the Willamette River which I cross twice a day (ever wonder what lies beneath the bridge? I will now! THX!!)

The deadliest game animal in Africa is the Hippo, they drown their victims.

However, much of the south is poorly drained, while the centre is dominated by Lake Kyoga, which is also surrounded by extensive marshy areas. Uganda lies almost completely within the Nile basin. The Victoria Nile drains from the lake into Lake Kyoga and thence into Lake Albert on the Congolese border. It then runs northwards into South Sudan. One small area on the eastern edge of Uganda is drained by the Turkwel River, part of the internal drainage basin of Lake Turkana.

Hippos are still found in the rivers and lakes of Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, northern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia, west through Ghana to Gambia, and also in Southern Africa (Botswana, Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia). A separate population exists in Tanzania and Mozambique.

Cuba and St. Kitts are islands surrounded by water, as are Iceland and the UK, and they have the lowest drowning rate.

They lack hippo's.

I'm not so sure, Tom. Statistics show that fewer than half the people born have died....maybe the odds are swinging in our favor? ;D ;D

I can only speak to Iceland as I lived there for a time. The water temperature of the North Atlantic is not conducive to the swimming sports. Hell, the temperature of the Atlantic on the coast of Maine in July and August is barely above 55 degrees.
Have you ever heard the term "ball deep"! ;D

On the other side of the coin, Nauru has the highest drowning rate at 23.6/100,000.
But when you take into account the fact that there are less than 10,000 citizens of the mighty nation of Nauru, that boils down to only 2 drownings per year. For an 8 sq mile island in the middle of the South Pacific, that's not too bad.
