I caught it (again) but always worth watching. AMC and TCM have some of the greatest war movies of all time in a marathon broadcast.

Hi;

     Wish that they would show the movie "The Outsider" - the story of Ira Hayes , played by Tony Curtis  more often. Also noticed they have left some of the standard movies out of the line up this year.

Trivia...

The actual firearm used by Alvin C. York to dispose of a line of seven Germans was not a Luger as depicted in the film, but rather a 1911 .45 ACP automatic.  The Luger was preferred for the film making, however, purely on the basis that they couldn't get the .45 to fire blanks.

He did take several with his 1911 before switching to the Luger he took off a German soldier.

IIRC he also traded his Springfield for an Eddystone P-17 as he liked the sights better.

I worked on Sgt. York (M247 DIVAD) in Redstone Arsenal - Huntsville Alabama.
Oops, wrong Sgt. I'm assuming.

(What a miserable P.O.S THAT thing was - talk about contractor cronyism!)

Had my kids watch The Longest Day, and To Hell and Back. They loved both of them. They kept asking if that was the war grandpa was in and had to explain he was in Korea. I explained to them that my uncle Bill was in WW2. I will have to have them watch Sgt. York. I will have to explain to them that was the war my grandpa was in. My kids are history buffs.
