Well, finally had a chance to let "one" rip from a S&W 500.
The owner said he bought it barely used with 18rds. of ammo. This was due to the original owner firing it twice, and saying, "Uh, bad idea, " and selling it.
Here's the vid, just click on the link to go to the Photobucket site.
The grip waggle I did is from my golf days, and I wanted to avoid an Epic FAIL moment like so many vids on youtube.

It is a true "Hand Howitzer" and not something I would want to shoot a lot. ::) The air moved around you when fired. :o
I did evaporate a gallon water jug though at 10 yds. ;)

Recoil didn't seem too bad from the video.

I had the "Vulcan Death Grip" on it.....The xtra large grips helped immensely..... ;)

Cool!
I watched a guy try and one hand that gun at the S&W indoor range in Springfield. He darn near broke his own nose...

Super cool! 8) I would love to shoot one.

Come on guys, we need to take this to a whole new level.

Congrats on the chance to shoot it. I got the privilege to shoot a hole cylinder's worth out of one approximately 6 years ago. It's a rush, especially shooting it at dusk like I did. Lots of flash. :o Granted I was shooting a longer barrelled version, the perceived recoil was less with it than with the Raging Bull .454 I also go to shoot. Either way, I could feel it in my wrist the next day.

Alf, I think the objective of almost all guns is to kill the guy in front of it not the guy behind it and possibly everyone else in close proximity too. ;)

That's a big negative Ghost Rider,....... :o
I'm not gonna try it,.....you try it,.....I'm not gonna try it..........Let's get Mikey!!!!!!!! ;)

What could possibly go wrong? ;D ;D ;D
-
I think the more appropriate question Alf is what could go right? ;D
I wonder if you could get a cylinder to hold 4 rounds though.... naw...nevermind-BAD idea!
-
I've shot 5 rounds (factory ammo) of 45/70 in a T/C contender 10" barrel. Yes, I stopped at 5, but then it was a very light gun. I'm not concerned about the .500. Of course the .50BMG is a Photoshop fabrication, but I don't think it far off with the long cylinder examples of the Judge, et. al. that we'll see some "rifle" rounds in a revolver soon.

Well, in particular, I find the ports in the 1.5 in. barrel interesting ;D ;D ;D ;D

I lost my interest in shooting these hand cannons when I say a TV show with the Gunny shooting one in slow motion. You could actually see the bones in his forearm flex in an S curve under the recoil. Looked like a great way to get stress fractures even if you have popeye forearms. I will leave these to the youts who can still recover quickly.
Fun to watch though!

Cool, I havent got to shoot a 500 S&W yet, I have the 460 though and they are fun. I have had the muzzle brake in mine replaced with a block so its not so uncomfortable for the person that stands next to me, however it still produces a mighty pressure wave.
Would be interested in anyone that has shot stout loads in each to reckon howmuch difference there is in the recoil. I load mine with 400gr projectiles and they certainly advise you when you let one rip. That said I find full loads in my lighter 44 to be more of a handful, the x frames are big heavy recoil absorbing machines.
This vid is me shooting the 460 and 44 side by side, pardon moi being uncouth with a ciggy hanging out my gob
and me hitting a 1 ft high coffee can at 25m (the lion teddy copped it too :-) from the hydro static shock )
big cals are fun ;D
