“You never wake up in the morning going on a hunt and say to yourself, ‘I am going to go out today and take a world-record animal.’” Roger that. If nothing else, I don’t use the word “take.” I favor “shoot.” But hey, you can’t blame the have-muzzleloader-will-travel eponymous host of Steve’s Outdoor Adventures TV for using the PC term for ending the life of a 26 1/16″ B&C Z (a.k.a., big ass) Grizzly bear. There are people who get ALL kinds of worked up over ANY kind of hunting. Check out the death threats Tweeted to Bronze Medallist Trap Shooter Corey Cogdell. [Note to the uninitiated: the bear is dead, not chillin'.] Meanwhile, West made the 49-yard shot with a Burris FastFire sight-topped CVA .50 Caliber ACCURA V2 loaded with 405 grain Copper Powerbelt Bullets propelled by 150 grains of IMR whitehot pellets. Just so you know. [Click here for one of Steve's Grizzly hunts and product promos galore.]

Would be more impressed if taken with a "real" muzzleloader not a pretend modern heathen type.
Nice bear but!

As my co workers at T/C used to say, "The cutting edge of obsolete technology".

I purchased a .54 caliber T/C Hawkin kit about 18 years ago and had a good expirence finishing it. I learned a lot about wod to metal fit and stock finishing. T/C makes a top quaility traditional muzzle loader. It has become one of my favorite deer hunting tools here in Indiana even with the state starting to add a few more center fire rounds for deer now. I still grab the hawkin even for some pest control around the yard, drives the neighbors nuts but oh well. ;D

My Dad loves his .50 cal Hawken as well. ;D
-
Only have one m/l these days, gave the hawken away.
Kept my Parker Hale 577 Artillery Carbine though - I call it my little smile maker, no one has never shot it and never had a big cheesy grin afterwards.
Please excuse the ugly prick in the photo

So THAT'S what a Sledgemeister looks like!

Sorta like an American Redneck with out the overalls. Flannelette shirts are the pinnacle of fashion I will have you know ;D

I bought a .45 caliber Hawken 20+ years ago and after some experimenting, discovered that it is exceptionally accurate with patched round-ball lead bullets. It is more accurate than some factory centerfire rifles I've seen.

Dad's .50 is a tack driver as well. Much better with Maxi balls and 100gr of FFF than patched balls though.
I suppose every one of them has a different preference.

nothing wrong with big heavy bullets going slow

Sledge, if you shaved your head, you would almost pass for deepwater, although he is about 9 ft. tall,.... ::)
