Thats funny, around here a free sign means it will stay there for weeks. A forsale sign and some one will steal it in mins

Is it me or is Clint a closet Democrat? Hell, Rush, who is apparently back on the Oxy, speculated that the National Hurricane Center was in the pockets of the Democrats and predicted that Isaac would hit Tampa just to mess with the GOP convention. ::) But Clint? Dear God, an 11 minute rambling speech/ventriloquist act to an empty chair? All he needed to do was say what any of us would "I (choke, cough) enthusiastically endorse Mitt (windsock, choke cough) Romney, for President. How hard is that? Instead he launches into something that would embarrass a freshman drama student. The looks on the faces of the Romneys and Ryans were priceless. If looks could kill, the Man With No Name would be six feet under. Mitt's speech? Who talked about it the next day? It was all the hurricane and Clint. Romney can't buy a break. The only good news for him is that he had the good sense to beat Obama to New Orleans.
-
Doesn't matter about Clint FQ, he (albeit probably accidentally) gave the Tea Partiers a symbol upon which to place their hats. Although talking to the 'empty chair' is a fairly well used theatrical device..remember Bob Newhart? :
from Dan Cirucci http://dancirucci.blogspot.com/2012/09/eastwood-and-empty-chair-real-story.html
Eastwood is an American legend -- an Oscar-winning actor, director, musicologist and Hollywood deal-maker who's still box office gold even at age 82. But he's not a public speaker. And he knows he's not a public speaker.
So, Eastwood did what he does best -- he created a scene and acted it out. And since he couldn't get the other character in the scene to be there live and in person he created a ghost of a character with the use of a prop, an empty chair.
This is one of the oldest theatrical devices ever. And it remains remarkably effective. Why? Because it engages the audience by forcing them to imagine the person in the chair. It activates people's minds by forcing them to fill in the words for the phantom character, imagining what the invisible character is saying or doing to provoke the live characters response.
From Topper to Blithe Spirit, to Harvey to the movie Ghost itself, imaginary characters have been a Broadway and Hollywood staple.
So anybody who didn't understand what Eastwood was doing is either lame, terribly unsophisticated or still suffering from a bad case of Obamamania.
And, let's face it: We've all encountered real, live characters (relatives, supervisors, fellow employees, etc.) that we'd love to verbally admonish while they're forced to listen to us for a change. When Eastwood told the imaginary Obama "With all due respect, you're boring the hell out of me," we were able to identify with Clint because we've all known somebody like that -- some arrogant, self-important, know-it-all who loves the sound of his/her own voice but who is nonetheless boring. And we've all wanted to give that person a good tongue-lashing.
But for one reason or another maybe we haven't been able to do it.
So now, Eastwood has come along and given us a new option. We can talk to the chair. Set up an empty chair and let your nemesis have it. Unload on him/her.
Eastwood was doing what many, many (perhaps most) Americans would like to do -- giving the President of the United States a piece of their minds.
And, why not?
It's cathartic.

From your mouth to God's ear BIC, but I still think it distracted from Romney. If BO is Carter 2.0, Romney is McCain 2.0. No one is enthusiastic about the guy. Even his opponents can't mange to get a good mad on about him, because they don't know what he stands for any more than his supporters do. They both just shrug their shoulders and say "meh". He needed that speech, and no one listened or talked about it. The Obama fans will vote for BO, the anti-Obama folks will vote for Mitt. But those in the middle? Mitt needs to make a case to them, and I think his chance to do that was damaged.

I disagree with you about Romney on several points, but that's for other threads.
To stick to the subject of Clint's speech, I watched half of it and thought it was sad.
The device of the empty chair was great for the reasons BIC mentioned, but also because, in terms of leadership, that is exactly what Obama has been, an empty chair .
While Clint got some good zingers in, ( "No sir, Gov Romney can't do that to himself" ) he has never made his living by speaking off the cuff, this was not the time to start trying it.
Being 82 y/o did not seem to help him in holding a train of thought.
He hemmed and hawed like BO when the teleprompter cut out.
It reminded me of Adm. Stockdale at the VP debate. :-\

You remember Topper? Very cool. But you do know that he wasn't a ghost? That was George and Marion.

I found myself embarrassed for him. Dirty Harry turns senile.

While I acknowledge the deficiencies in Clint's speech, he did exactly what he needed to do: he galvanized the Tea Party.
The empty chair was a good device--it makes the scene memorable. People are still talking about it nearly a week later.
And suggesting that Romney is McCain 2.0 is just foolishness.
Romney has actually accomplished some pretty tremendous feats in his life that did not stem from getting his a$$ captured in Vietnam. And he can respond off the cuff without needing a teleprompter.
He certainly wasn't my first choice, but he's what we've got. Either we get behind him, or we say goodbye to the US of A.
And that's my 2-cents,

I am the opposite.
He stood up like a man and made the point he wanted and needed to make. I don't know of anyone that did not get the point he was trying to make either. Keep in mind that he did this as a member of a community where most do not agree with any thing he had to say.
Take it for what it is:
A well informed man speaking to the generations behind him;
A compilation of Pres. BHO's responses to all who disagree with him over the last three and a half years;
A very clear and unforgettable symbol of the lack of wisdom and leadership in the desk chair in the Oval Office;
And a great reminder of all the campaign promises ignored and avoided once the votes were counted.
I would rather listen to Clint in his current form for hours than either BHO or Romney with their canned perfect delivery. Speaking the truth from the heart is what matters. That is what forged this nation, and beauty and eloquence contests are what are destroying it.

#1 let's not forget that this is ALL theatre.
Clint is quite a man to stand up at the convention and speak. His age and status probably allow him that luxury more so than a younger man.
He did not appear to have notes, so it was probably off the cuff.
He's 82 or so...not the most spry mind and it's understandable.
Which brings me back to my first point- it's all theatre. He performed a particular task- he told the truth about Obama, pointed out how big of a stuffed shirt douchebag the guy really is, pointed out that Biden is a buffoon, and a number of other points that would be impolite for the candidate to point out. He is also taking the heat and the focus from the responsibility for those comments, playing the "dottering old man" at the convention.
He may have been winging it, but I don't believe anything he said or the way he said it was a surprise to the Romney campaign.

The empty chair indeed was a powerful symbol. The tweeted response from the White House--a picture of the top of Obama's head above the back of the President's chair in the Oval Office--was also very symbolic...symbolic of the half brain we can see and of him leading from behind! When Teddy Kennedy was alive, he was the brains and power behind Obama. What ought to concern us is who now is pulling the strings on the hair brain sitting in the chair? Nice job, Clint. Mitt, get your act together so we can move out smartly. Time's running out!

It also symbolized the way Obama has turned his back on the American people and the Constitution.

I just saw an Oblama commercial featuring Bill Clinton. He said Oblama wants to "rebuild America from the ground up." If that isn't ominous, I don't know what is.

Nicely said Tom. He does have a hard time facing us, doesn't he?

After years of lunacy a remodel is in order, but we do not need to start over and rebuild anything! Besides, I do not approve of his architectural drawings >:(

Pres. Obama's people would tell you that his photo depicts leadership: He has developed a plan, organized the troops, and he is leading them into battle. When a leader leads in this way you see them from behind, because they are showing you the way.
However, I feel it shows the true Pres. BHO: He is an elitist racist. He has inserted himself into a position of power, and he has abused that power to shape peoples lives through manipulation. He claims to be one of the down trodden poor minorities, but he not only hates the poor and what they are, but he hates the so called good ole boy power brokers - a level of which he has barged into.
This couple's lack of ability to act proper in public has shown us what they really are. Mrs. Obama continually is caught mocking leaders and dignitaries, they both disrespect our nation's symbols, and they have no sense of sacrifice paid to allow them to be where they are. Some will protect the Pres. by saying it is Mrs. Obama and her comments, but watch the videos when she flaps her lips and he nods and even comments in agreement.
Who will they invite to social events in the future when nobody needs to impress them? They hate the class they came from , they hate the class they think they have risen to, their associates are either in prison or on parole, and they have shown disdain for all races. They should be concerned that France still has a sharp "impeachment" tool sitting around!

Actually we DO need to completely tear down and rebuild the education system and the media90 years of communist infiltration have left them beyond the ability of mere band aids.
Once we have an accurately informed, well educated electorate that understands subjects such as history, civics, and how to live with in a budget we will be able to eliminate about 90% of govt regulations.
-
Rebuild from the top down.
Once 90% of the politicians have been removed, that is a good start...
Of course, without Tom's planned remodeling of the educational system, it will just be rebuilt with the same rotten structure as we have now.
