isn't it a bugger... :(
-
You can say that again!

As Chief and Chairman of the Department of Redundancy Department, I think that is accurate and right on.
Good work and well done,
Crusader Rabbit

however there is the option for me to go in to another roll, just working out all the details

Scary place to be for sure. Good luck and let us know if you need any advice ;D

I'm getting Deja vu again.
Does this mean the same as "down sizing" ?

yes and no
more like the work is still getting done just that it is getting done by another company not who I worked for
I have the option to go there or stay here doing a different job

Thats ok the company I work for was just brought by a Canadian company CGI making it the 6th largest IT company in the world. Just waiting to see what happens next.
I think the go to phrase these days is "a blended model" aka off shoring.

Sorry, Phil....... If it'll make you feel better, blame it on Bush.......seems to be working for BHO.
-
well i still at the office at the moment
just working out to move in to a new job roll in the company instead of taking the package and doing something i have never done before ( look for a new job )
-
You have NEVER had to look for a new job ?
-
You have NEVER had to look for a new job ?
nope
did work experience where I am while i was at school over 15 years ago and they asked me if i wanted to leave school and join with them
so I left school ( year 11 ) and been here ever since
-
Good God, I've worked for more than 15 different companies, several more than once.
-
Tom, somehow that doesn't surprise me.
Just kidding...maybe it's a national difference...in the US it has become very rare to see someone put in 20 years at one company. Opportunity seems to be most available laterally.

I've mostly worked in computer related sheet metal fabrication, it seems that the effective life span of a major customer like Cabletron or Lucent is about 5 years before they need to either purge their product line canceling all the old orders and redesigning, or they sell out, or the market takes a dump.
In the 8 years I made parts for Cabletron I was laid off 3 times, each time it was long enough to take a Temp job till I was called back.

Look at it this way Phil, you can apply for an H1-B visa here in the states to work for Apple. I guarantee that the members of this board will pony up to buy you an AR as a welcome to America present. ;D

The only problem is that the current immigration quota system is geared to favor unskilled Africans Arabians, and South/Central Americans over Skilled Europeans or Australians .
It has been a part of the Dems program to change the national demographics just like refusing to secure the Southern border.
When was the last time you heard of a Canadian illegal getting into trouble ?
Some of them may come THROUGH Canada, but they don't come FROM Canada.

We need folks to cut caine in Florida (interpret that how you will ;D), and I'm sure Phil can swing a mean blade, razor or machete, but Bill Gates is arguing for more IT visas every year. Seems like crap to me when American schools are turning out plenty of IT grads each year, but in this case I'll take it if it'll help out one of our own. Think of it Phil. A CCW, a Wall mart credit card and an AR. You can drive to the gun store in an SUV and come home with whatever your credit card will bear that same day. Plus the cable is better and the taxes are lower. What's not to love? ;D

My sister's husband is a Brit who came here on an IT work visa.
He was employed by an Indian firm at the time.
