It's coming up Saturday/Sunday 9/22-23. Conyers, GA. East of Atlanta.
I'll be going Saturday and trying to shoot 2 entries in the morning.
I'm actually off that Sunday and if there's something interesting for the finale on Sunday, I'll go back.
Anyone else going? We could meet for lunch.
Alf

I have dreamed of going for the last two years but I have not been able to get the time off of work to go. Maybe next year. Tell the the Gunny hello for us. Conagher.

Sorry you can't make it.
My second trip. Since I know the drill, I'll try to take some pictures this time.

Not my "A" game Saturday. I was late leaving the house. Took a two wrong turns and basically was almost two hours behind. Instead of starting to shoot at nine it was almost 11 before I got my first stage in. I shot my last stage around 1:45. I wanted to stop by a gun show on the way back to Atlanta, but didn't have time.
Roughly figuring with pencil and paper, I scored 101 and 113 in Competition and Civilian. Down from my 82 in July. Will probably not get me on page two of the results. For reference a score in the 70s is needed to be in the top 10. One miss (10 points) really did me in on one stage.
On the plus side, I did manage a <5 seconds on one run through the plates. Got to met Gunny, for real. And shot the Gunny Challenge Course for practice. No timer though. Next time I'll take my timer.
Pictures to follow this evening when I have time. Have squeezed some contract work (I work extra hours for ammo) and honey-do's in this weekend.

Here's Gunny and I scarfin' down some brewski's and enjoying a good cigar.
Would you settle for Gunny and me?

By the way, Gunny has ear protection too. .40cal brass stuck in his ears.

Your intrepid author all determined to take away the prize money ... in his dreams.

And here's Gunny wondering who was that ace shot. (Sorry, Conagher, but I forgot to drop your name. I'm sure Gunny would have said, "Hi" back.)

On the way in to South River. They have a large trap and skeet field. The clubhouse is behind that high trap house in the distance. They've expanded the "action" shooting bays and now I think they have 24 bays. Plus the cowboy town. They also have several rifle ranges.

I was late so there was a short wait to pick up the registration pack. Nice club house. They sell reloading supplies and ammo.

Some vendor pictures everything Glock and more.

Here's some pictures of the SAS "cowboy" town. Part of it is used for "games" you can play for prizes.

And you can get your Glock worked on by factory armorers. To their right, under the big tent is the "chuck wagon".

Here's the Courses of Fire: Minimum, if don't need any makeup on the steel is 81 shots. Maximum allowed is 107 since you can at most have 11 rounds any one time. No reloads allowed. No extra shots on paper targets.
Glock M 4 paper targets and 3 poppers. You shoot the course 3 times. 2 rounds in each paper target and 1 popper.

Plates 4 times through. You can use up to 11 rounds (10+1)
5 to Glock 5 paper targets ranging from 5 to 25 yds. 2 shots each. 3 times through the course.

Lastly, here's a little side event one of the local IPSC clubs had. I think this is really marvelous. Glock matches are simple, no reloading and no moving. IPSC (and IDPA) represent the next level up. Kudos to these guys

Ok , I am so green with envy ;D But glad you had a great time. Sure looks like they have all going on at that range.

Great pix! Thanx.

Nice trip Alf! What a great way to spend some time. Gunny's earplugs...maybe that's why he talks so loud all the time. ;)
-
Nice pics Alf! Glad you had a good time.
Looked like Gunny scored a Fuentes...and yeah, I think ears plugs would be free if he just said, "anybody got an extra pair?" ;)

The preliminary scores are posted.
A real downer. I had such high hopes. Finished 98th/376 in Civilian and 100th/244 in Competition division.
Considering I was 33rd last year and 15th at Dawnsonville in July, this is my reward for too much dreamin' and not enough practice.
There's always the next match. AND maybe I'll win a random prize drawing.

OR you could say that everyone else is getting better and you are just as good as you were ;D
I've been hanging around my kids too much as you can tell, the excuses come too easy ::)

Really cool! Thanks for sharing. Did not make it this year. :-[

Well we close the 2012 match on a positive note.
Correction: "I" close the 2012 match thread on a positive note.
A positive $50 I received today in the random prize drawing. I went by the range and rubbed it in with my shooting buddy, Robbie who finished about 2 places behind me in each category.
All's well that ends well, as the Bard was fond of saying.
Thank you, Glock.
I'll put that towards my new S&W ;)
