Ohio inmate who weighs 480 pounds seeks execution delay, says he's too heavy for injection
A condemned Ohio inmate who weighs at least 480 pounds wants his upcoming execution delayed, saying his weight could lead to a "torturous and lingering death."
Ronald Post, who shot and killed a hotel clerk in northern Ohio almost 30 years ago, said his weight, vein access, scar tissue and other medical problems raise the likelihood his executioners would encounter severe problems. He's also so big that the execution gurney might not hold him, lawyers for Post said in federal court papers filed Friday.
"Indeed, given his unique physical and medical condition there is a substantial risk that any attempt to execute him will result in serious physical and psychological pain to him, as well as an execution involving a torturous and lingering death," the filing said.

Medical personnel have had a hard time inserting IVs into Post's arms, according to the court filing. Four years ago, an Ohio State University medical center nurse needed three attempts to insert an IV into Post's left arm, the lawyers wrote.

WTF? 3 whole attempts at an IV and that's going to cause "serious physical and psychological pain"??
Little kids get 3 pokes all the time every day in ERs across nation. This bunghole is 53! ::)
Here's an idea - use an IntraOsseous IV (ankle, shin, sternum, humeral head) and inject away.

Isn't being 480 lbs already leading to a slow, painful, torturous, lingering death?

So hang him

They could always use a "IV pilot hole initiator device"
They come in calibers from .270 up to .308 and are administered directly to the chest cavity from a range of 25-30 yards. Multiple silmutaneous IV pilot holes administered to a small area in the upper left torso guarantee that a vein (like the superior vena cava) or an artery (like the aorta) are found.
This method is also sometimes referred to as Lethal Lead Injection, which is a much more cost effective (yet slightly more messy and noisy)variant of the standard Lethal Injection.

So hang him
Just run him around the track a few times. He'll die all by his-own-self.
Did this puke give the clerk any consideration or thought for his well being before he killed him/her?
I think not.
No mercy for the fat boy.
Only problem I see is that when they poke him with needle, they might get gravy!

Talk about a waste of skin. He'll die of a pulmonary embolism before he see's the executioner.

When they hung stage coach robber "Black Bart" he had gained so much weight in prison that when he hit the end of the drop his head popped off.

Crash diet, then kill him. prob solved.

In the book The Dirty Dozen it gives a good description of the proper technique for hanging.
Rope length has to take into account height and weight of the condemned.
A rope too short will leave them strangling at the end of the line.
One to long will give them what Black Bart got.
The goal is to get the length so that is just breaks their neck for a quicker, more humane kill.

Another thing to think about is that he went to prison 30 years ago. I'd bet he was a shadow of his current self.
The taxpayers have a lot invested in the guy.

This was tried years back. I forget the name of the case, but it was in
idaho.
It was the same "fat boy defense". The deal was that lethal injection was shiny and new, and inmates sentenced to death got to choose between the old method (that they were sentenced under) and the new. In Idaho, old school was hanging. The defendant argued that choosing his own method would mean that he acquieced to his own muder. Therefore he would be hanged. But hanging could result in decapitaion because of his extreme weight, and therefore it was cruel and unusual. The appeals court said "No, but thanks for playing".
I think a .40 to the back of the head would alleviate his concerns.
FQ13 who hopes that they invited Black Bart's horse to the hanging. It would only have been justice for the poor animal. ;D
PS How do we allow someone on death row to reach 480 pounds? Its not like they're running out to the quickie mart for twinkies? ???

Why bother ?
A lot messier, but if his head pops off you don't need a doctor to pronounce him dead.
In fact, you don't even need a grammar school graduate to figure it out.
-
Fine...let him pick another method.

Too fat? obviously not on Sherrif Joe's chain gang...
Rule 1 - Use enough calibre!
