Title: Facebook Lodite
Post by: jaybet on September 18, 2012, 05:39:29 AM
Any of you who have tried to "friend", "like", or "whatever" me on Facebook know that I am a Facebook Ludite...got no time for it, don't like the interface, all that. BUT...it seems to be the way everyone does things these days, so with the help of a patient daughter (who will be administrator) my band, Bluebone now has a Facebook page. We will be posting all our events and photos, hopefully music, etc.

It seems to be important to be "Liked". If any of you are so disposed, please go like us on facebook...Bluebone.

Slow start, but we'll work on it.

Actually there is a counter-culture brewing beneath the Facebook surface.

A local bank has an ad, "Most banks communicate to you with social media.  We use real people."

I check they do NOT have either a Facebook page or a Twitter account.   Though I bet they do offer on-line bill pay.

And I've added to your "likes".   And I've posted it to all my minions er followers and peeps which will hopefully gain you even more fans.   At least 1 or 2 ...  maybe.

Now the problem is you have to "FEED" the Facebook page.  A picture or two from each concert.  Pictures of people more famous than you attending you concert.  Upcoming concert notices.   It never ends.

You caught me being lazy....I meant "Luddite"". I think a Lodite is someone walking around with a load in their pants.

We resisted for a long time but it seems like everyone is slowly dropping websites, email, and even texting for facebook messages and posts, so we're just trying to keep some old dudes working.

What kind of content would be interesting? Some tunes to listen to...some favorite influences, maybe some porn pix of my guitars and guns sleeping together?

"You like me! You really, really like me"!  ;D Sorry Jaybet, I don't do Facebook for a number of reasons. BUT if you post some tracks on Youtube, I'll watch them to drive the ratings up.

I do FB to keep up with a few friends who use it to post pictures and personal news and for a few "commercial" pages.  Seems it is a great place to advertise...

But when ever I click of a "hug" that a friend may send me, it informs me that if I continue, I will be giving FB permission to publish my friends info and to make posts on my behalf.

I simply can't understand how anyone could click to accept those conditions.

I agree Solus...I think FB is ultimately evil, and will bite us all on the a** someday, but we just weren't reaching people with the second generation tech. It's a little ridiculous.

Try Twitter. Not that I know jack about it, but its basicallly a mini blog where you can post your next gig and the like. A lot of bands and food trucks and the like (as well as chicago flash mobs) use its. Basically you post " I'll be at this place at this time show up". I'd look at it.

I did get to Bluebone and liked it though.

Yeah..FB will bite ya...just don't put anything in it you don't want bit.

Real name and home town gives anyone who wants to "google" it your address, for instance.

Posting you are going to a concert on a certain night lets anyone interested konw when that address is likely to be empty.

I'll reply on the Twitter info -
I like it, I don;t have to friend anyone - I can "follow" people or industry I want and ignore and not be bothered by that that I don't want to see.

I get information about food and product recalls, follow MB, Pincus and some other gun buys and companies - when they put us "tweet" out they usually have links to pages that ARE NOT - FB pages  (Thank the Lord)

If someone I follow turns out to be a retard, I just unfollow them... no issues,
Also good for podcasts, as the producers of the casts typically message when a new podcast is out.

.02 - I like it, but don't live on it -

I have a lot of old HS friends that I have re-connected with through FB...... but anytime someone sends ridiculous crap, I block it immediately and I have also set all the privacy parameters as private as I can, while still allowing most friends access.

I also play one or two of the games on there during the wee hours of the AM when aches and pains won't let me sleep and my brain is too tired to read. I admit to being an Angry Bird junkie.... you know, for "stress relief"..... yeah, stress relief......that's it.

I got shed of the games on there with Mafia Wars.. I did the "Farm" things too for a while. I kinda spent the entire year of 2009 on there.. I had too much time on my hands..

I got on FB because of High School friends. I found a roommate from Military School just in the last few days..
As far as getting bit, I think it's already happened, frankly. If you log on anywhere that has the software, it tells you where you are. If it doesn't tell you, it keeps a record of it, tied to your posts.
Uncle Spook can nail us down here as quick as he can there..
I came across my local chapter of Oath Keepers (>targeted group<) on FB, as well as all the TEA Party/Freedomworks and so forth on there. News you won't hear on FOX, because I guess they changed..
I like it but it kinda brings the rattlesnake into your bag as far as privacy goes.
If I were gonna keep what I believe a secret, I wouldn't be posting here either..

Before I get too windy on that topic..

I used to be a Youtube junkie in the early hours of the AM. Even uploaded a few of my own on my channel. It was a humorous way to be entertained when sleep was avoiding me.
