Slain N.J. girl’s parents, suspects in court together

A day before they were set to bury their daughter, the grieving parents of 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale of Clayton came face to face with her alleged killers in a Gloucester County courtroom Friday.
The encounter during the teenage suspects' first appearance in court was subdued, the parents' lawyer indicated after the closed hearing in which Superior Court Judge Colleen A. Maier ordered the two detained until another hearing, set for Nov. 16.
The suspects, two brothers, are being held at the Camden County Youth Center in Gloucester Township.
The slain girl's divorced parents, Anthony Pasquale and Jennifer Cornwell, were joined by about two dozen relatives and friends at the courthouse in Woodbury, though not all of them got into Maier's courtroom.
After the short hearing, as sheriff's deputies accompanied the relatives to their cars, Anthony Pasquale clutched a teddy bear to his chest while holding the hand of his girlfriend, Cheryl Evans.
Jaime Kaigh, a Westmont criminal lawyer and former prosecutor retained by the parents to advise them, indicated after the hearing that the courtroom encounter between the family and suspects was restrained.
"I've cautioned them to try and be as reserved as they can be, and to give these two juveniles accused the same rights as anybody else," he said. "I think they are tempering their feelings with respect for the judicial system."
He said the parents want the teenagers tried as adults.
Officials have not released the names of the pair charged with killing Autumn, but townspeople have identified them as Justin and Dante Robinson, 15 and 17, respectively.
Prosecutors are expected to seek to have the teens tried as adults, but Assistant Prosecutor Michelle Jeneby said they have not filed any motions yet and have until Nov. 23 to do so.
Kaigh also moved to dispel reports of a rift between the victim's family and Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton.
"I think within the victim's family there is a great deal of sadness, obviously, but thankfulness to the prosecutor's office," he said. "They've truly been as accommodating a prosecutor's office as you can imagine."
He also asked that the parents and other family members be left alone for now with their grief.
Paul Spadafora, Autumn's great-uncle who has served as family spokesman, on Wednesday had accused the prosecutor's office of botching the search for the girl when she was missing and called for an investigation by the state Attorney General's Office.
Spadafora was not at Friday's hearing.
Under state law, proceedings for juveniles are closed to the public unless a judge rules otherwise.
News organizations, including Interstate General Media, parent company of The Inquirer and Daily News, filed motions to have Friday's hearing opened to the media because of the high public interest in the case.
Maier did not take up the motions until after the detention hearing ended. She asked attorneys for all parties to file briefs and scheduled a hearing to precede the suspects' Nov. 16 detention hearing.
Autumn, who would have turned 13 this coming Monday, disappeared Saturday after riding off on her bicycle and was reported missing 9:30 that night.
Officials said the girl, a BMX enthusiast, went to the Robinsons' house to exchange bike parts.
Four days earlier, she and Justin Robinson had an exchange on Facebook about a bicycle during which he invited her to his house.
After a massive, two-day search, her body was found Monday night inside a blue recycling bin behind a vacant home next to where the brothers lived.
Saturday's funeral services will be held at Mary Mother of Mercy Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 500 Greentree Rd., Glassboro.
A viewing is scheduled for 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 p.m.
Interment will be at Cedar Green Cemetery in Clayton.

This is one of those rare occasions when I concur wholeheartedly with the Quaker...
We cannot even suggest that these two boys are animals, for animals do not kill without purpose.
These two brothers are some form of pure evil that cannot be tolerated in a civilized world.
My sympathies go out to the parents and friends of the unfortunate victim.

As I read the article I began to wonder who these boys were, what they looked like because the article lacked pictures of the perps but had a photo of the victim, cute little girl. I wonder if the races were reversed, a cute little black girl and two white boys whose picture would have been more prominent.
BTW this is the first time I have seen these guys' photos which confirmed my suspicion.

We heard at work (through Facebook- not the most accurate but some know LEO types) that one of these POS put on his Facebook page that "At least they recycled".
I hope this is pursued as a hate crime, because if it were reversed it certainly would be. And where are those douchebags Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Eric Holder? I guess the life of one little white girl doesn't matter when it interferes with the narrative.
There is no measure for the disgust around here.

There definitely seems to be a different set of humans evolving out there, regardless of colour or creed. I am positive that the human species in some cases is de-evolving.
Be it genetics, environment, socially or politically driven we seem perched on the precipice of the point of no return.
If one was going to be clinical and these types of persons (and I use that term lightly) were rabid dogs we would run a program to round them all up and destroy them before they can infect others.
I think the same approach should be carried out on such human vermin.
Surely there is a island somewhere with a nice active volcanoes where they can be rounded up, shipped off to and pushed in?
Segway moment - I wonder how many people in Hawaii get topped and their bodies are dumped in to their volcanoes? I mean how would they (cops) ever know

You don't have to be a believer yourself to see that America's churches look at the Bible and preach what makes them feel good and look popular, ignoring the parts they don't like.
Every Church, synagouge and mosque does that. I mean do you really think God gave the pope his blessing to hold onto the Papal States? I'm a Christian, but please, there is no reason we have a hundred different denominations if the Bible was a self interpreting text.

So your liberal brain flips don't see any conflic6t between the Leviticus passage that specifies death for gays and the election of Gene Robinson as an Episcopal Bishop ?

Tom, you like history. Look at the Catholic church. Tell me how an institution that ran the freaking inquistion is now anti-death penalty using the same Bible. :o

At our founding Supreme Court Justices could be removed for bad behavior. Cursing in the court room cost one justice his robe, and getting drunk, in his private life no less, cost another his robe. This was the environment that Adams stated the above, not that I think we ought not adhere to the law but we ought to return to those principles we were founded on and apply them uniformly.

Magoo, that wasn't a "shotgun" wedding was it? OMG, how I just love guns. Do they have silencers for air softs? Do we have to do the BATF dance if they do? Sorry for all the questions, but I have to suspect anyone who agrees with me...especially one who could have brought an air soft to a shotgun wedding (sorta like bringing a knife to a gun fight).

Any silencer is regulated if it can, in the BATFs view, be put on real gun. This sucks as there are lots of airgun suppresors made in Europe with zero regulation, which is just weird as their gun laws are so restrictive otherwise. I'd love one for my pellet guns for back yard pest control purposes, but I can't do it without the tax stamp, which ain't gonna happen in my county, even if I could afford it.

I don't know, didn't see much of the wedding party. Apparently up here in Central Wisconsin they are a lot more mellow than other parts of the country when it comes to weddings and the resulting parties.
I think I'm going to improvise a TP roll silencer with some masking tape for an attaching method. I may even build a trap out of some plastic coated paper I have access to to keep those little suckers from bouncing all over the room. Then I'll use the hotels printer to print out some targets and my phone's IPSC shot timer for some drills ;D
