Should hit NYC tonight - sometime.... I say the looting starts about 3am Tuesday morning and goes to Thursday sometime.
The best of society will always show its true colors in cases like this.... and I expect nothing less this time.
Predictions?
-
RTFM,
We don't usually have rioters and looters down here in rural western MD, mainly because there is no seasonal bag limit on them. Know what I'm sayin'? Wish you guys well and keep your powder dry!
-
Well, at least the fires will off set the black out.
-
Family in Keene, Dover and Berlin....
Good luck Tom - hope it is nothing more than a inconvenience for you.
Keep your powder dry mate.
-
Weird thing? We didn't have any of those in Miami after Andrew. And the year we got hit by four storms in one year? There weren't any reports of widespread looting either. Gee, I wonder why? Just say'in. 8) ;D

RTFM, Surf's up on the coast but in the lakes region we're just getting a good rain storm .
Your relatives in Berlin, and Keene will be getting about the same.
Your relatives in Dover will be getting a little more wind (54 MPH gust this afternoon in Rochester) but no major danger unless they live in a particularly low area .

Won't happen because Mayor Doomberg has NYC on lock-down... any violators will be shot at, minimum 16 rounds, and will be prosecuted by the Mayor himself. ::)

Rioting? Not going to happen. "They" can't swim. :'(

Who says you can't have a fire and a flood at the same time ?
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/superstorm-leaves-blazes-wake-least-50-homes-burned-125634618.html
A six-alarm fire in Breezy Point, Queens—a coastal area under mandatory evacuation order ahead of the storm—has destroyed about 50 to 100 buildings. Nearly 200 firefighters have responded to the massive blaze, a challenge to battle because first responders had to wade through chest-high water to reach the homes.

An article I just glanced over suggest that Con Ed won't have the power on till the 11th..
Give it a couple of more days..

A couple of guys I work with live closer to the heavily affected areas. They say that there is a lot of survival theft...gas siphoning, food looting, generator theft, that kind of thing. Along Long Beach Island and the beach communities to the north, azzholes have been taking boats in and looting the houses that are left. They now have citizen boating patrols.
One guy says he's going to start patrolling with a spotlight, since we can't be trusted with guns in NJ. I told him to stay home and protect his family because our nanny goverment will take care of those other folks.
There's nothing like that going on where we live (south of Sandy's eye)- life is pretty much back to normal. We're still on guard though.

NEW YORK (AP) — The fight for fuel after Superstorm Sandy is starting to get nasty.
New York City authorities say a motorist was arrested after he tried to cut in line at a gas station in Queens early Thursday and pointed a pistol at another motorist who complained.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says 35-year-old Sean Bailey, of Queens, was arrested on charges of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. It wasn't clear whether he had a lawyer.

Of course, in NJ they refused to let the Alabama Power crews help because they're not union. Shoot self in foot.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/non-union_utility_crew_from_al.html (http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/non-union_utility_crew_from_al.html)
Then there are the companies carrying on like nothing happened. B&H Photo in downtown Manhattan, a very large A/V supplier, apparently hasn't missed a day shipping merchandise. I order a $800 delay unit from them on Tuesday, 2 day ground. It arrived Thursday before 11am! (The shipping label and tracking data confirm origin was in Manhattan.)

I can't quite figure out that article. I think it relates to some crews from Alabama not "Alabama Power" crews. My brother is with Alabama Power in Atlantic City, and they're bringing in more crews and planning to be there at least through the first of next week.
In either case, not accepting help because it isn't union is stupid.
-
Bunch of crap...you don't know your Jersey territories. Seaside Heights is mobbed up, so of course no non-union labor accepted.
A caravan of about 15 trucks FROM Alabama (guys had accents too) were all over our area working like 24/7 DOGS. They got wife's work back on the grid. Nice guys too. They were partial to the Wawa stores and high end restaurants.
-
Once again an example of union protecting their members' pocketbooks without consideration for the people they are supposed to serve to provide the funds for those pocketbooks >:(
It is sad when the checklists for an emergency like this start off with balancing overtime and benefits, and maximizing benefit for certain workers as higher priorities than making the scene safe and restoring services.
-
!!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!!
I stand corrected. "Alabama Power" is likely going to pack up and head north tomorrow. They aren't done, but the powers that be want them gone, apparently. ???
For what it's worth Jaybet, my brother was in New Jersey last time yall had a big storm (I can't remember exactly when but within the past year or so.) and really enjoyed it. He said yall treated them well.
-
I see some of you fellas from the northeast are still posting. That is a good sign. Stay safe all!
-
NH doesn't have anyone still with out power, I didn't hear of any power outages at all in Me. and I think Ma is pretty well back to normal as well.
As far as I have been able to tell the only places hit hard were coastal NJ and NYC.
One of my cronies has a Brother in Law in MD who was flooded out but his low lying land floods any time there is heavy rain.
-
I think you're about right Tom. 3/4 of the Jersey shore, Long Island, NYC, and inland a little were the worst. Trouble is, that's all REAL EXPENSIVE real estate.
Sadly, intermingled with all that high dollar stuff are a bunch of old timers- people living in their family home or service workers living where they can. THOSE people got reallly hurt. I couldn't care less about the guy whose third home got damaged, but many businesses and little guys got destroyed.

http://news.yahoo.com/hurricane-sandys-darker-side-looting-other-crime-190000049.html
"Hurricane Sandy's aftereffects are making the area more dangerous, with looting and robberies, despite an increased police presence."
We all knew it would happen sooner or later!
::) :(

Bloomberg - "No National Guard!"....because they have guns..Just when I was starting to feel a little bit sorry for New York too.
http://queenscrap.blogspot.com/2012/11/bloomberg-says-no-to-national-guard.html
-
BLoomburg also said man made global warming cuased this. Whats funny is noaa released a statement saying no it didn't. I wonder which report is covered more...
-
Bloomberg is a douche.
-
Latest word is that they (Alabama Power) are still in New Jersey. They are staying in Atlantic City because that's where rooms are available, but working in Point Pleasant.
-
Bloomberg's going to handle it ?
This is the guy that couldn't even get the streets plowed and snowstorms are a regular occurrence. ::)
NOTICE !!!
Until further notice looting will be permitted on days ending with "Y"
However, any one caught in possession of a 20 Oz or larger soda will be shot on sight !
By order of MJ Bloomers Mayor of NY
-
The local reports down here (in AL) about the crews up there have been covered with ??? and ::).. At this point, it's more of a "and then there's this" kind of thing..
