Title: Arsenal AK models
Post by: garand4life on November 10, 2012, 01:43:38 PM
I'm debating a carbine here really soon and am really torn between an AK platform or an AR platform. Mainly for a defensive long gun but am trying to keep some of the cost down. If I go AK platform I want to go with a well made one and not some cheapo WASR.
What are the real differences between the arsenal models since there are a good number of models that are 7.62 and 5.45.
Any thoughts or good alternatives? Anything I should be looking at? I would like to keep it closer to the $750 and under if possible but am willing to go over that if it is well worth it.

If you are going to go "higher end" AK you might as well go with the AR if you don't already have one.
This is not a time to be optimistic about supplies of anything that is dependent on Govt permission, like cheap imported ammo. Domestic sources of reloadable .223/5.56 are far more extensive than the 7.62X39 because with so much cheap steel cased coming in it was not profitable to produce large quantities.
