Not trying to borrow trouble here but if they manage to pass a new AWB, (or get it through the Court), do we all go remove or cut off flash suppressors, mean looking pistol grips and go buy 5 round magazines, or what?...
When they passed the last one, I was 30 years old, fresh out of the Army, broke and trying to build a life.. I kept a Winchester 30-30 and a Smith Model 10, and that was it, for years.. I was thinking about other things..
What did happen last time??

I won't say how old I was when the last one went into affect. ;) For that reason, there are more qualified people to answer.
Based off the magazine I just pulled out of my pistol (stamped RESTRICTED LE/GOVT ONLY) and my limited understanding, everything that was already out there and made before 9-13-94 was allowed to remain. Everything made after that was restricted to law enforcement. That's why things were labeled pre-/post-ban and like the magazine mentioned above. There are way too many existing items that would be on the "banned" list for them to actually remove them all. The only thing I could see is the ending of manufacturing and selling new items.
I'm sure others will be able to better answer the question.
By the way, I have no items that would be on the banned list. ::) :-X

The way I understand it if they get a new AW bill passed there will be no "Grandfather" clause in it,so we will all(mostly?) be retroactive felons
-
Pass a law that instantly makes 90 million taxpayers and voters felons?
-
Ex post facto much?

As I understand it, DiFi's proposal would NOT allow for any grandfathering. One would have to turn one's "assault weapons" in to the police or be guilty of a felony.
Maybe I'm cynical, but this sounds to me like another way to disenfranchise voters who might be more likely to vote something other than D.

She will all right, and some folks will vote for it. BO will pledge to sign it into law (while praying it never comes to that) because it keeps the base happy and raises money. No way will anything like that pass the Dem controlled Senate with all those purple state Dems, (can we say Virginia, Nevada and Michigan and Florida anyone?) and no chance in hell of it passing in a GOP controlled House. DIFI is a true believer, she wants it and is willing to pay the price. BO is a practical man with bigger fish to fry. He'll talk till it looks like it might cost him seats in 2014 then STFU, just like W. and his daddy on abortion. For now its a free hit, champion something you know won't pass to rally the true belivers and get their money.
That said, I ordered ten GI mags for $65 bucks and they should be here Tuesday, because hey, I've been wrong before. Sadly though, I think they might have gotten lost lost in mail. Damn government unions, you can't trust them with aything. ;D

No one thought too badly of Hurricane Sandy until...it merged with another nor'easter to become a super storm. My point is, in the political arena, there are many storms out there only one of which is DiFi's AWB. To get measures through the Congress, some of these storms may merge to accumulate votes, become riders on other bills, etc. So, personally, I'd rather not ignore or play down what DiFi is advocating. Those with an anti-gun agenda are content with chipping away at our rights...one pistol grip at a time!

I believe it's safe that a rehash of the original ban will pass. After negotiations are finalized and sufficient pork is added.
That said its unreasonable that it would be retro-active. It will impact current and future sales as well as ammunition types. Accessories will require federal stamps. Basically they will tax is heavily and restrict military-esque equipment.
Why's scares me is the fight to remove lead amounts. I can see they expanding down to .30 cal arounds making it impossible to find conventional ammunition.

It won't happen (if we fight it it). Every Dem from a swing state/district in the Senate or House and every GOP House member knows this sort of crap is political suicide. What we need to be worried about are executive branch "rules" through the EPA, BATF etc..The rest of it is Wayne La Pierre in his own private Alamo. But he exec branch stuff? That's real.
