I wonder which is the greater gift of an actor..
Is it the ability to create affection for the character portrayed, or the actor that portrays the character..
Either way, I guess it's quite a gift..

Saw the film in Disney Land in Anaheim in 1772.   Very impressive.  I think Mark Twain would approve.

Saw his performance on TV once, many years ago. It was a joy to behold. I think that actor was the reincarnated Samuel Clemens! Some actors are better suited to their roles than to their own identities, I guess.

I did not know Hal Holbrook was still alive .
I know he's been doing Twain since the early 1970's .

Jack Nicholson looked more like Hoffa than Hoffa did .   ;D
Sherman Helmsly as Sadat was another one .

Even earlier than the '70s

In 1967, Mark Twain Tonight was presented on television by CBS and Xerox, and Holbrook received an Emmy for his performance.

And yes...he is still alive....

Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) lived 75 years.  He had a quote about when he would die..a prediction.

I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: "Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together."

Which it appears, they did.
