This in from the 'reap what you sow' files........ and while I 100% support freedom of speech, I also delight in seeing the blow-back on folks who are just plain idiots.

Two women have been placed on unpaid leave from their jobs after their photo at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia angered thousands of people on Facebook.
Lindsey Stone was visiting the Tomb of the Unknowns last month on a business trip when she posed for a picture next to a sign that reads “silence and respect.”
In the photo, Stone is pretending to yell and she’s showing her middle finger.

Tough way to get your fifteen minutes of fame.

I don't understand why some one would do that.

Because shes a dumb %$...insert whatever you care too!
I meet this type of disrespectful asshat every day here and she's from the Boston area... Need I say more?
-
Sigh...
I guess there is some irony in shouting and flipping the bird next to a sign reminding one that silence and respect is the proper behavior....
But a squirting flower or a hand-shake buzzer are funnier and a whoopie cushion has more class.

She is obviously a tolerant and inclusive liberal.
Probably college "educated".

Photos like the one attached are what make my heart swell....and what rile me up about the one above.
Taken during hurricane Sandy:

Respect! It is well documented through sociologist circles that respect is a key ingredient, and it is the loss of respect that drives many of our issues today.
Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its
dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness
the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the
laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals.”

How many times does it take for idiots to realize that facebook isn't private, and that there are consequences for public actions?
I guarantee that they will apply for unemployment. Let's see if the worker in charge has the nads to classify this one as ineligible.
-
No matter how despicable we believe these asshats actions to be, this is still a 1st Amendment issue and they should not have lost their jobs over this.
Feel free to crucify me now but remember, I'm a Veteran from a family with 42 years of active duty service and that's not counting my fathers four brothers who served as well!
-
I ain't throwing rocks Timothy, too much glass around here. Yeah, the dumb bit*c has first amendment rights. Her employer also has the right to dismiss her for behavior that reflects badly upon the organization.
I think John Wayne said this in a movie; 'Life's tough, it's tougher if your stupid.' Maybe she'll learn a lesson from this incident. If not, she can always say; 'You want fries with that?'
-
Considering she did this despicable act during a company sponsored outing, I'd tend to agree that he had cause but she/they may still have a case if they chose to pursue it legally!
-
I tend to lean with Tim on the firing being extreme, to the extent that the crap storm they stirred and resultant public embarrassment probably should have been enough 'punishment'.......but FBG also has a valid point.
I know when I was in a salaried/supervisory position at my former place of employment, in order to accept the position I had to sign a contract that, in effect, said that I could be rightfully terminated for engaging in practices deemed a 'public embarrassment' to the company.

First Amendment, all Constitutional issues, are to protect us from government. Private business can fire you for anything they wish if you work "at will." There are race, sex and all those where government has put rules on private business, but in a case like this where private business is acting in their own best interest and the interest of their clients the First Amendment does not protect these two.

I'll concede to a very valid argument from M58...
Well put and thanks for the reminder of whom the Constitution is meant to protect us from!

+1
I just wish all those jackasses in DC would stop and read it.
-
I recalled I'd just signed an employment agreement a few weeks back that basically said that as an "at will" employee, they can release me for any reason, period! It also says that I can terminate for any reason as well!

[drift] Reminds me of a children's book on the Constitution and Bill of Rights I got from the library for my g-kids to read. I knew it was a libtard rag as soon as I read the part about the Second Amendment. The book said, (paraphrased here) Some people think the Second Amendment gives individuals the right to own guns.
How can our children and grandchildren even begin to know whom the Constitution is meant to defend if they are 'educated' by crap like that? I did BTW protest the content of that book through the County Commission. Haven't heard back yet. [/drift]

That's the point.
You can not be a good little lamb and believe that the rights of the individual take precedence over the powers of the state.
It interferes with the state making you do "whats best".

What your letter will say is "... without cause." I've written a couple, and this is what the weasels advise ... in their opinion. It pretty much says we don't want you anymore, so bye bye!

My father and mother reside in ANC. I take what the girl did very personally. So, in trying to set emotions aside, I don't see where she broke any laws, neither in her actions at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier nor on her own Facebook page. On those two incidents, the 1A does apply, even if I find it most offensive. As for her employer's actions, I sense there is more behind it. From the articles I sense this was just one of perhaps several disrespectful acts these two girls engaged in and in full view of the 40 visitors that LIFE sponsored. In their eyes, the girls not only violated their principles in front of their guests, but also flaunted it to the nation. But, at the next Democratic convention, all will be forgiven as the girls speak out berating the war on women. If only they had visited a condom factory. I can just wonder what antic they would have pulled there!

No laws broken...just low to no humor and zero class...I'd now want to be around folks of that caliber.

I fired a guy becuase he posted a pic of him smoking pot on facebook. I didn't really care that he smoked pot( as long as it didn't get in the way of his work, not many can pull that off.) I fired him for being a dumb ass for posting that pic on facebook. while there are some diffrences in this case, the outcome is the same, you are fired for being a dumb ass.
