The NRA makes a brief statement then the main NRA website is unavailable again.
The NRA is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting. The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

"The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again."
In other words the f*cking NRA is going to sell us out again.
-
I don't think they are going to sell us out again. I think they have been in the right to not come out and say anything. I find it classy that they did not run to the closest mic to spout out. So was the NRA in the wrong when they said they wanted people who had mental illness not to get a firearm? They were one of the supporters behind that.
We just have a few days to wait till they come out with a statement. I would rather wait a few days and have 1 announcement then them come out right away and put out a statement and then issue another statement and then have to recorrect that. That would make them sound like the White House.
-
Relax Bogan!
The NRA and most conservative leaders are doing what I said we should all do: They are sitting back and respecting the suffering of others. There is a time to not be political. Rather than try and figure out what is coming, get down on your knees and pray for the suffering, and wait for the facts to come out.
-
The only way a gun rights group can make what the left would consider " meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again."
Is to cave .
They will either sacrifice standard capacity magazines or modern semi auto's.
They have not got balls enough to say guns have no place in a mental health issue, and they have to much invested in perpetuating the threat.
As for "relaxing" I will point out that it was complacent idiots that brought the country to this point by electing these AHoles.
People like m58 talk about "respect for the grieving families" and similar sentiments shows just how badly he doesn't get it.
People like you have lost 2 presidential elections in a row and you still don't get it.
This is Alinsky politics and you are getting your ass kicked .
While you have been sitting on your thumbs you have given the left 4 days head start to brain wash the masses .
Politics is war by other means and the slow learners have just handed your sworn enemies a key ingredient to victory.
They didn't "Seize the initiative" they had it handed to them on a silver platter with one of those fancy domes.
The kind they will use to serve you your head.
All those folksy fantasies about "people caring for people" may sound nice in Hicksville, but this is big city real world stuff, until you are ready to slander, malign, or knife your opponent you better get used to being his b!tch.
That is how power is used.
-
I tend to agree with m58 whether it helps or not! The brainwashing of the masses started well before this horrific event Tom!
These kids haven't even been laid to rest yet and I'm staying out of it for the time being. Feel free to call me whatever name you see fit but sometimes it's better to sit back and let things play out. YMMV.
-
If you are not going to fight effectively for your rights you do not deserve them.
Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.
Never go outside the experience of your people.
Wherever possible go outside of the experience of the enemy.
Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.
Ridicule is man's most potent weapon.
A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.
A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.
Keep the pressure on.
The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.
If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.
The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.
Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
You have already let them do at least 3 of 12.
You will never protect what you have left, let alone restore what's been lost if you continue to hold the delusion that ethics, or scruples has any place in politics.
The Christian Right and other "goody two shoes groups needs to STFU and tend to their souls and leave politics to the realists who actually understand it.

Yes Tom, I'm a loser! Glad you cleared that up for me....
-
Now is not the time to squabble amongst ourselves... we need to focus all of our collective attention on those with whom we disagree. I don't always agree with what the NRA says or with what they do but I believe with every ounce of my being (and that's A LOT of ounces) that without the NRA we would have suffered far worse at the hands of the progressive left. The NRA is not the only pro-2A organization that does good work but they are the largest, strongest, most well-funded, and the most feared lobby we have and they need our continued support.
If you are not a member then please sign up today. Buy memberships for your spouse, your children, and your friends. Strength in membership is what garners the attention of vote-hungry lawmakers. Send the NRA-ILA regular contributions so they will have the funds necessary to fight what will be a long and bitter struggle. Contact your State and Federal representatives, even if they are on our side, to make clear that any infringement of our 2A is unacceptable.
We have fought this war before and won... we will do it again.
-
Yes Tom, I'm a loser! Glad you cleared that up for me....
Glad you said it so I don't have to.
Complacency and thinking of the enemy as "reasonable people" will lose us our rights just like it did in England, Canada, and Australia under the exact same circumstances.
-
The NRA is not the King of King’s when it comes to our guns. We the people are. It’s time to stop Squabbling between ourselves and call or Email our Representatives and Senators every day until this goes away. If there jobs are on the line then they might listen. The House is still in Republican hands. Unless BO passes a Executive Order we have a chance of cutting all gun bills of at the knees.
-
So has anyone that has talked about what the NRA should or should not do actually contacted their Senators and Reps to say not cave in on any new gun laws? Or we just going to attack each other over who majored in Poly Sci in college and know more about politics than someone else?
-
I can't speak for any one else, but Kelly Ayotte heard from me last Friday.
-
??? I hate to be a contrarian, but are why are we leaving the field to the enemies of Liberty?
The talking heads are reporting that the NRA has run away with its tail between its legs.
The Left always teaches control the language, control the argument, win the day.
As Mayor Nutter said on MSNBC last night we just need to give up a little freedom for security like we did after 911.
My apologies to Ben Franklin.
As things develop it looks like sheep dogs and sheep doggettes are the answer in the schools.
Apparently works in Utah. Teaching certificate + CCW certificate = safer public schools since 1996 (last Utah school murder).
(suicides dont count)
If Michael has other reasons, my apologies.
On a happier note the liberal mouth dribble seems to be rinning out. The reaction here in Missouri is too tell people not directly
affected to quit sniveling and get back to protecting our God given rights. Louis Gohmert for President!
Ya, its the same post but it is still right! Even Reagan Drug Czar & Harvard Philosophy Grad Bill Bennett gets it. Wants to let football coaches carry. Even RINO Bill Kristol agreed acknowledging ccw holder have a lower crime rate than police officers.

Actually the Christian Right, under Ralph Reed and Pat Robertson got all of those rules and used them to good effect. Its why a minority got veto power over the GOP. Alinsky isn't just about ideology, butalso tactics. Ignoring him because he was a lefty would be like a General ignoring Romel's tactics because he was a Nazi, or R.E. Lee's because he was a Confederate.

Actually, ya dumb grunt, you said it first!
The difference between us Tom is that when I heard of the senseless slaying of 20 children and 6 of their teachers the first thing that came to my mind was not "How can this tragedy adversly affect my life?" Quite the contrary, I thought of those children, those mothers, those fathers, their extended families, their community and the countless others affected... I think the Constitution will prevail without my influence!
I'm out...maybe for good! Have a nice life... ::)

I should PM this to Pathfinder, but the shock of FQ "getting it" and being right might be to much for him .
And we know it really is FQ because he misspelled "Rommel".

My first reaction was gee, to bad for those families, it's a shame the loss 27 lives will be used by our enemies to f*ck 310 million citizens.
"I think the Constitution will prevail without my influence!"
I'm sure the "good Germans said the same thing .

I have my drafts ready to go to elected officials on December 26th. I will see what the National Rifle Association says before I craft a response to them that will also go after Christmas.
Tomorrow I am on the radio again concerning this, but the message will be the same: Take a deep breath - life will go on; The world is not coming to an end (I need to find a better way to state that in light of the Mayans, but it was a good chuckle this noon during an interview); Respect one another; Anger is one of the normal grief responses, but don't let it get out of hand and allow a little extra tolerance with one another these days; And above all, this was an act of violence and nothing more - Don't repay violence with violence.
Politics will wait until after Christmas. This week is not the time to play politics, and nothing is going to happen over the weekend.

What a load of self rightous crap.
This is exactly the sort of unrealistic complacent foolishness I'm referring to .
Your politics can wait till the 4th of July for all anybody cares, Obama already started making his moves this morning so nothing you have to say matters, all you and the NRA can do is react because you gave away the initiative.
-
Cool off, boys.....

Thank you Marshal.

I think being patience may be smart. Part of the challenge is that if you argue with an idiot then it is hard to tell you apart. Most people in the middle are swayed by whatever they heard last. Acting like we are the adults and trying to deal with the real source of the problem with some honesty won't sell in the lib media but may resonate with real people. You are not going to beat BHO in the media or wth teh chattering class. We are left with the real people who have been buying guns for SD and have actually thought about what they would need to do to defend themselves.
Don't know if it will work, but I would hope it is based on data from polls that I know NRA is good at.
-
All of you who think it's wise to wait deserve whatever you get out of this .

I know it's ugly when the family is fighting, but, IMNSHO, Bogan's right.
We cannot allow this to develop into any compromise on the Second Amendment. Taking a stand, and a strong stand, is all that will remain between us and total confiscation.
I own a "military style" rifle. It's not a "black" gun--it's actually kinda green. I own extended round magazines. And, here is the real surprise, I have yet to shoot any civilian with it or any of the other "assault style" weapons I own.
The question is not, "Why do you need a semi-automatic rifle?"
Rather, it is "Why do you think it's okay to deprive me of my right to protect my life and to protect my family and property?"
We are in the fight of our lives, my brothers. If you don't understand that, just line up and turn in your weapons. You don't deserve to own them anyway.
I am a veteran. I took an oath. I will uphold that oath. It didn't come with an expiration date. And Tom, Semper Fi from a lowly squid.

I'm a veteran that took an oath as well! I'm also an uncle who's carried the casket of a two year old. Yes, we're in the battle for the Republic, but a week of reflection isn't asking too much!
My beloved country fell on November 6th, 2012! Recovery isn't guaranteed...

When your foes have a game plan that kicks in automatically reflection is a luxury you can not afford.
Did you sit back and say "Let's think this over" on Sept 11 ?
