I "celebrated" the re-election of BHO with the purchase of an AK-47 (CIA PAP) and have since bought 3 more hi capacity magazines. Its never been shot and they are going for crazy amounts on gun broker, if you can find them. The store near me has no inventory. Do I sell now, wait for the ban to go into place (seems likely) or sit on it? Could be fun just to shoot as well, but can always use the money. Maybe I will trade it in on the $1,100 revolver that caught my eye.....
-
Para, I'd hang on to it for 4 years if to make a killing ($-wise). By then, the $K revolver probably will not have appreciated as much as the AK. If you didn't buy the AK for a specific shooting purpose, I'd keep it cosmo'd. That's just me and I'm not an AK kind of guy, so take that advice for what it's worth.

Silly dude....you send it to Rastus's FFL as a Christmas present, of course! ;D

I would hang onto until after the ban. Then you should be able to make a killing on it.
-
Isn't that the one you told me fell overboard while you were on a fishing trip last weekend?
-
If the revo is really sweet and what you would rather have, I'd think about getting the $$$ now.
Maybe wait until the details and timetable of the ban get ironed out but waiting too long could mean you have it for good with no transfer option available.
Just my $0.02
-
Well, I am thinking about selling an FAL and my Bren Ten for ca$h in the next couple of weeks. Last buying spree I was offered $1,800 for the FAL while walking a small gun show after picking it up from FFL...if someone says $2,500 they can own it. Together I am thinking pull off the table 5k...gotta do it.

It's not going to be that easy to pass another ban. I don't care how much these flaming liberals want to play this silly, politically correct, emotional game. Dems know it amounted to political suicide, when they voted for it lock step with Clinton last time. They all lost their jobs over it, along with Democratic control of both Houses. Also, there was no run on AR-15's and AK-47's back then like there is now. Politicians aren't that stupid. They see how many people are running to buy these rifles, along with the 8,000 a day who are joining the NRA. Every one of them is a "NO" vote for any sitting incumbent, Republican or Democrat, who votes for a ban. A clearer picture could not be painted for them. A blind man can see it.
At this point I doubt Reid would even want this dog with fleas to come up for a vote in his marginally Democratic controlled Senate. It's far too risky for him. He wants to keep his powerful job as Senate Majority Leader, more than he wants to ban guns. He's smart enough to know if they pass another AWB in the Senate, he'll lose it, along with majority control in the 2014 mid term elections. Remember what happened to Tom Foley in 1994. He went from Speaker Of The House, to civilian in one night. The last time that happened was before the Civil War. Gun control has been all risk and no reward for the Dems. Sure they want it. But they are not going to be so warm and willing to pay such a stiff price to have it again. Remember, nobody is more selfish than a Washington politician.

Sit tight on the AK, like billt mentioned there are senators coming up for re-election in 2014 as well. The dems have to maintain a majority in the Senate, and some are in very red states. The executive orders on imports and imported ammo via a 30% tax seems more probable.
However, if you can double/triple your money on the AK....Than that is tempting. I'd hang tight until the new Congress critters get in.

Silly dude....you send it to Rastus's Santa's FFL as a Christmas present, of course! ;D
Just fixing that little typo there.. Carry on.. ;)
If this thing broke loose the wrong way, it could be illegal to sell one privately..
Holding on to anything that pretty much anything that any of us would have should be considered worth holding onto, (and money in the bank, when combined with magazines and a case of ammo)..
You won't really start getting the itch to take it out till the weather breaks anyway. Unless you're really in a bind, wait a few months and see. It won't "go down" in value between now and then..
That'll be $.02, please...
Thank you very much..

It is a good problem to have and appreciate all of the perspectives. If you mail me a self-addressed and stamped envelope Santahog I will get you the well earned $.02.
Going to be joining an outdoor range next month, keeping it NIB will be very difficult.

Shoot it. What else do you do with a new gun. There are so many out there that IF there is another ban I dont think prices will change for quite a while and even IF there is a ban expect a no transfer or sale clause or its pointless.
Thats why I gave money to the NRA to give all these Opportunistic politicians that are looking to get their Palms greased, ie politician who gets a good grade from NRA who now flips, his mind will need persuading. I just hate to read people like "us" saying "after the Ban in reinstated." Dont give up now. Look at Cheaper than Dirt they changed their story awfully quick after we pressed them last week.
We are the majority. Please show it.

I don't mean to be impolite or rude (and I usually don't use profanity)... and it's not specifically you, JumboFrank, because others have posted similar thoughts... but really guys... WTF??
Have we already conceded defeat? Do you guys know something that the rest of us don't? Are we this easily demoralized? This easily dispirited? Are we already passing out the KY and dropping our pants because our enemy tells us we have no path to victory?
Our every thought, our every word, our every action needs to exude -- needs to EXPLODE -- with a sense of confidence and optimism that we will fight this battle and feast on victory when our enemy crumbles and falls away in defeat !!!
I encourage each and every one of us to read Psalm 91 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+91&version=NLT (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+91&version=NLT)) every morning and every night. Don't just read it... meditate upon it. Soak in its promise. Pray for God to infuse you with the power of its message.
We are on the side of what is Right and Good here, Gentlemen. By God... stand up and fight for it !!!

Hear hear !
If the antis want an "end game" I say bring it on !
We are in the best tactical position gun rights advocates have been in in 50 years.
When we compromise this time it needs to be what will they give us to not take something from them.

I guess I should have said potential ban.
But I see the glass as half empty. I think there will be some kind of ban. Too many Republicans are willing to compromise.

Based on what? Congress can't even pass a budget that raises taxes, which both party leaders seem to want. RINOs need the Tea Party to avoid the Fiscal Cliff and they aren't playing ball. Can you imagine what'll happen when the RINOs ask Tea Party reps to vote for AWB2 given the history of AWB1?
Ain't gonna happen at the Federal level. The fight will be at the state level.

Jumbo, I posted on this subject in the Downrange #295 thread .
This isn't Clinton's 1994 .
The Gun grabbers have the media so they hear their own message .
But that's ALL they have.
In 94, I was the only person I knew who owned or had owned an AK, every one I knew who owned an SKS had bought it from me when I needed money, I'd bet there were not 25 civilian AR's in the State of NH, and every other state was similar.
Today there are many more people who own, or have owned an AK or AR than there are who haven't .
If that were not the case then they would not be setting sales records every month.
I say let the gun rights fanatics do the negotiating now since the grabbers don't have anything to work with.
Here's what I'm thinking, If we are turning the focus away from guns and onto crazy people we can't touch NICS, (for now) but we start rolling back specific provisions of GCA 68 and NFA, for example, we will let them continue to register machine guns, but silencers are off the list, they are hearing protection and should not be regulated any more than condoms, it's a health issue, and it protects the hearing of children engaged in healthy sports with their families.
requiring guns to be shipped to an ffl was justified under the "commerce clause", but any one who has actually read that clause knows they don't have a leg to stand on, so we hold that hostage "You import the historic relics (M 1's ) from South Korea or we will get the FFL requirement overturned .
It's time to turn the tables, we have reached a tipping point as the VPC recently said but it's not the one they think, we can go for all the marbles that matter now by agreeing to leave them a few face savers that don't really matter.
For now.

Being on the "side of right and good" will get you what in DC? Executive Orders and AG/ATF/DOJ decrees don't give a rats a$$ what you & I think.
I say plan for the worst and hope for the best, just like having tools, water & munchies in your vehicle in case you get stranded.
After contacting all your congresscritters, what they do is out of our hands until the next election. Even then, the worst get re-elected because they represent the worst.
I'm not certain my reps care either. Last time I got a reply from one of my Senators, it was a stroke job. We can rah-rah all we want but it still comes down to a bunch of freaking weasel politicians who don't know their ass from a mud pit.

As to "my" US legislators, they are'nt as bad as many. I've got Aderholt in the House, and while I'm still getting an unfavorable impression, generally, he has a pretty good rating with NRA and GOA. He's weak though.. I think he'd turn his back and allow something through on this, at least around the edges.. The guy reminds me of someone who doesn't like getting dirty.. He'll pose for a picture, but it better be a "clean" golden shovel..
Shelby and Sessions are pretty strong on RKBA. I'd worry more about Sessions that Shelby at this point.. Sessions gives a pass to darned near EVERY judge and Cabinet nomination that comes before him. I dislike that..

This was off the CalGuns forum this morning:
I bought a 6920 for 1799 and an LMT Defender for 1399 this morning....i was looking at those just last sat for 400 less each. Could have saved $800.

Here in S. FL. We have price gouging laws on the books for say $10.00 gas or $5.00 ice after a hurricane. A couple of real "winners" here are selling PMAGS for $50 each.
The folks I deal with most have held the course around 18-20 bucks until they sold out.
Florida has just surpassed 1Million CCW holders, more than TX, good luck with a ban here; even the Dems know that.
I personally do not think a ban is going to happen, as was posted, Congress is too dysfunctional to pass anything of substance. But taxes on imports, online sales restrictions, another level of "big Brother" on your purchases seems more likely.
One thing is sure when BHO said "Whatever Power of this office, I can utilize" he meant it, and Exec. Orders can effect the gun market.
Thankfully during the "quieter" times I followed Col. Jeff Cooper's advice. Hoping you all did also.
"I hear that small arms ammunition in South Africa has practically disappeared from the store shelves. Either people are wisely stocking up, or some arm of the government has decided to cut off the supply. In that regard, I advise you to keep your own stocks in good shape. Our enemies may not be able to abrogate the constitution just yet, but there are economic and political means by which they may dry up our ammunition supply."
