Vice President Joe Biden “guaranteed” that President Barack Obama will pass sweeping gun control legislation by the end of January, according to Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino.
“He said, ‘Tommy, I guarantee you, we’ll get it done by the end of January,’” Menino reportedly said at City Hall on Thursday. “They’re going to get it done.”
Menino, a leading gun control advocate, has been recovering from a myriad of health issues over the last two months, but said Biden has called him a number of times while he was in the hospital. One of the calls came after the Newtown, Conn. school shooting and concerned gun control, the Boston Herald reports.
“I understand the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms. But I don’t understand how young kids should be able to get guns,” Menino said, adding that Obama has “no excuse not to pass strong legislation.”
The mayor also said the president no longer has to worry about upsetting pro-gun voters or the National Rifle Association because he is in his second term. In other words, he is more “flexible.”
“Menino and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg co-chair the 500-mayor-strong Mayors Against Illegal Guns and have called for national gun reform in the wake of last month’s Sandy Hook school killings,” the Herald report adds.

What does Biden have to lose? Nothing, as this is the last public office he'll ever hold. It's time to engage.

Will he bet his job on it? I'd put a paycheck to one of his that it won't happen. He's lying anyway, his lips are moving. I really can't say how much I detest this man.

While few VPs and Presidents have every had other significant positions, I can't imagine Biden, clown that he is, not having some type of position to keep him in the spotlight.
I think his whole self-worth is tied up with "being somebody", meaning holding some office or position of importance and significance (at least in his eye and that of the media). I don't think he's smart enough to create something along the lines of "the Carter Center". So somebody will "use" him as their figurehead in some organization. Maybe grand exalted poo-bah of the modern KKK or of Planned Parenthood.

Wouldn't surprise me if he sent something unreasonable to Congress just to get it shot down (pun intended) so that they can say they tried but the darn Republicans care more about the NRA than they do about children. On both sides of the aisle, politics in ths country stinks!

alf, Biden will be offered a VP position in the graveyard of Democratic presidential candidates and former VPs: Al Jazeera's Current TV empire! Big Oil will shape his butt into the American voice of reason, since this is a natural for him as he speaks out of his ass all the time anyway. You guys who like Pravda and Jsinhua will just love it.

They have already tried and failed to "ramrod" legislation through the IL legislature, and we know how much they hate guns there. Federal law makers face a much stiffer fight as there are a lot of Dems and RINOs that are "pro-gun" and would join the unemployed next election cycle if they voted against the 2A.

Problem is this administration is refining the art of passing 'legislation' without all the 'red tape' of House and Senate votes.

Do you have a link to this? I'd heard they were "trying", but heard nothing about it failing to pass. Big shocker there.
