A home burglary in White Plains, N.Y. that appears related to a newspaper’s recent publication of gun-permit holders will bring a legislative response Monday, in the form of a new bill aimed at banning similar public disclosures in the future.
Newsday reported Sunday that burglars broke into a 70-year-old man’s home intending to steal his gun safe. The resident, and his address, were among 44,000 disclosures of lawful firearm permits that the Journal News, a Westchester County, N.Y. newspaper, published on Dec. 24.
Republican state Sen. Greg Ball has been critical of the newspaper’s decision to release the information on the heels of the Dec. 14 Connecticut school shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead.

I fully understand the First Amendment's intent, and I completely believe in freedom of the press.
That being said, and as has been said by others, life is tough; and it's tougher when you're stupid.
The editors/publisher of the Journal News are stupid.
They have succeeded in making life a lot tougher for New York gun owners.
It pains me that common sense is so very uncommon among the libtards and the lame-stream media.
Newspapers are going the way of the button hook. I sincerely hope the Journal News leads the way to their soon demise.

I understand the First Amendments protection that allows private citizens and publishers to be watch dogs and informers of the truth. It is intended to better the people through education and awareness. It is also meant to allow citizens to know what their government is doing. Please explain to me what public good is accomplished publishing names, addresses and information tied to a person participating in a legal activity.

The homeowner needs to file suit against the paper .

The reports of this incident pretty much say what this one did.
I haven't found anything on what the outcome of the robbery was and what leads folks to believe the gun safe was the objective.
Maybe they were hauling it out the front door when the old man dropped them in their tracks....but nothing I've found tells that part of the story.

Next they should publish a list of people who own expensive stereo systems, computers, and big screen TVs. ::)
