Some follow up on this:http://www.huntingpa.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2924593#Post2924593 (http://www.huntingpa.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2924593#Post2924593)
It appears that the Eastern Sports Show is run by the same people running the SHOT Show!!!
They run one show wall to wall loaded with black guns for the important people and ban them from the show intended for the great unwashed. BS!
-
Hi;
Have been hearing on the local radio news all day today "groups" intend to boycott the ESS because of this non-ar type weapons being available at the show.
I don't know who the "groups" are but I for 1 will not attend even if whoever changes it's/their minds. It is only 9 miles from the house and I can park at my place of work and I just will NOT attend !
-
What is worse than a politician who doesn't understand firearms writing firearms regulations? How about a gun show organizer who doesn't understand guns?
"not appropriate for a hunting show"
My number one hunting firearm is an AR15 A2!!!

NRA Statement in Response to Reed Exhibitions' Decision to Ban Modern Sporting Rifles from the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show
The National Rifle Association strongly disagrees with Reed Exhibitions' decision to ban Modern Sporting Rifles from the Eastern Sports Show in Harrisburg, PA, February 2-10. We encourage Reed Exhibitions to reconsider their position.
While this decision has come as a surprise and concern, we have made a commitment to our members in Pennsylvania and surrounding states and are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to interact with as many as 250,000 fellow hunters and sportsmen. We encourage all attendees to stand and fight for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens and not cower from our principles in the face of media pressure. We urge you to follow the NRA and the outdoor industry's lead by voicing your displeasure with Reed Exhibitions both before and during the show and encourage them to reconsider their position.
The NRA's future participation in the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show will be determined by Reed Exhibitions actions in response to the concerns raised by the NRA, the outdoor industry, and America's law-abiding gun owners.

Just sent this to them:
Gentlemen,
It is my understanding that you banned AR15 type rifles from this year's ES&O Show. If I am wrong, please forgive my comments.
I cannot think of any good reason for your decision. I believe it is cowardly, timid, and a breech in the solidarity of the gun community against this illegal, unfair, unAmerican effort to destroy the Second Amendment. You made a very poor decision in this regard, and have dissolusioned the community.
I was not able to attend the show this year, and now I am glad, and if this decision is truly your best judgement on the matter, I will not be attending ANY of your events EVER AGAIN.
Stand up for your rights and those of your customers.

Update:
Looks like the bad publicity is working, Cabelas just pulled their support for the show!

They could have called the AR's Modern Sporting Rifles and avoided this whole mess.

Here's my letter. Feel free to copy and paste any and all if you choose to write your own letter.
It is with regret to inform you I will not be attending the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, upon hearing you have made a poor decision to ban the display of AR-15 type Modern Sporting rifles. It is clear to me, with this decision, you have chosen to pander to the anti-gun media frenzy and in doing so further their biased assault to villianize the AR15 platform. I would have preferred your organization to have sided with your customers who recognize this type of rifle is the most popular rifle today and is not responsible for the heinous acts of a mentally ill individual.
As Benjamin Franklin said, "We must hang together or surely we will hang separately." It is clear with this action you have chosen to distance yourself from the majority of gun owners and, in ways, assist with fractoring the gun owners into different groups. A tactic, I might add, the Anti-gun groups have vocally indicated as necessary in order to facilitate the passage of more restrictive gun measures.
It is for these reasons I cannot patronize your event and I will encourage others to do the same.
Respectfully,
-
Here is the current list of those that pulled out. I 'm sure this will grow and its too late for most to change there mind and go if the ESS changes there mind.

It is going to be one big empty convention center!
I would like to see a list of registrants so I could see who is still going to show.
-
Here's the link. I tried to cut and paste the list, but it got stupid.

Love to see the outdoor/shooting industry standing together. Too bad that so many patrons will be disappointed due to the stupidity of the promoter.

The NRA has finally decided to pull the plug on them as well.
-
If I were a gun rights group I would have a tough time making the decision one way or another on this one.
It could be seen as sending a message by not attending that you do not agree with the ban on a certain style of semi-automatic firearm.
Staying involved could be used as a platform to say "We fully disagree with what the producers of this show have done, and here is how we can stop it from becoming law."
Regardless of their reasons, I hope that every business and organization that has decided to boycott takes full advantage of the money they paid for their booth space. I hope that everyone of them hangs a banner in the booth they already paid for that says "XXXXX has chosen to not participate in the Eastern Sports Show due to their support of the denial of the Constitutionally protected Rights of all law abiding citizens of this great nation."
-
The show is cancelled. Check out the news on the main page. This outfit might be out of the Shot Show management.

NSSF is saying "postponed" but no new dates or suggestions as to when.

NSSF Statement on the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show

We have just learned that Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show.
In the days following Reed Exhibitions’ announcement that modern sporting rifles would be prohibited from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, the leadership of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has been in intense, frank discussions with Reed Exhibitions management in an effort to reverse this unacceptable decision. These discussions reached an impasse.
NSSF is in no way affiliated with, nor does it participate in or exhibit at this show in any way. Reed Exhibitions does, however, manage the NSSF-owned SHOT Show (though Reed manages the SHOT Show, all SHOT Show decisions, policies and actions are made at NSSF’s direction).
Because of Reed’s recent actions, NSSF is considering all options regarding the management of future SHOT Shows.

What can I say. You don't F@@k with gun owners. ;D
-
Now that is interesting.
If the companies are no-show, no refund.
If the show is postponed, refunds might be in order...

ESS trying to make nice and save some face?
That, and most likely trying to prevent losing their ass on a show that wouldn't have the attendance of a strip show featuring nude dancers from Weight Watchers.

awww c'mon Bill - tell me you've never been to The Clermont!

Okay you got me.
I not only use to frequent "the lounge", they had good lunches, but I use to live at the Clairmont hotel. Back in 1967-68.
