Y'all come to Texas, state official tells New York gun owners
By Jim Forsyth | Reuters – 21 hrs ago

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has a message for New York gun owners: Come to Texas, and bring your guns with you.

"Texas is better than New York, and New York just gave us another excuse to say that," Abbott, a Republican, said on Thursday, after ads extolling Texas appeared on several media websites.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed sweeping gun-control legislation earlier this week expanding the state's ban on assault weapons and putting limits on ammunition capacity in the wake of last month's school shootings in Connecticut.
Abbott, a possible candidate for governor of Texas in next year's election, used campaign money to buy ads on websites of news organizations in New York City and Albany.

One ad says in classic Western script: "WANTED: Law abiding New York gun owners seeking lower taxes and greater opportunities."
Clicking on the ad leads to a Facebook page touting the virtues of Texas, including the fact that the state has no income tax so "you'll be able to keep more of what you earn and use that extra money to buy more ammo."

Abbott told Reuters the ads are a "way to tweak our liberal friends up in the Northeast."

"It is tongue in cheek, but there is a deeper message here," he said. "Texas really does stand as the last bastion of ultimate freedom in this country. Over the last decade, more than 4 million people moved to this state, and one reason is freedom and one reason is economic opportunity."

Abbott has said he will file a federal lawsuit to throw out any nationwide gun restrictions implemented by Congress.
A Cuomo spokesman did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

I'm thinking hard about asking my sister about the job market in her area .
I hate to leave NH, but we are cut off by NY and Penn.

Don't let that stop you Tom!  I'm stuck here cuz of family but you're not!  NH isn't what it once was and you know it!  Too many locals moving north and commuting or littering up the landscape during ski season!

Texas isn't bad and work is work!

PA Ain't too bad law wise, I'd say the voters like their dems but they have to be a shade red to get in. Our gun laws are actually some of the best in the nation.

No restriction on OC
No restriction on carry into bars and believe it or not you can drink while carrying.
Shall issue state and some counties have made the process so easy you just walk in and walk out with a LTCF.
No training requirements
No Storage requirements
Can OC without a permit unless in Philthadelphia or Pittsburg or in a vehicle.

All in all its not that bad.

What is Texas like in comparison?

What Texas needs to do is invite the gun companies in NY to come to TX and give them tax breaks, etc. to make it worth their while.    Be nice to see Kimber pack up and leave NY.

Just a "I wonder" question. If the major gun manufacturers were to leave NY and relocate to a state that doesn't have the crippling taxes of NY, do you think the prices of firearms would come down?

Texas needs to be careful about where it gets its new citizens.

If it works out like it did here in Florida, Damn Yankees tend to come down for the freedom, then complain that "it's not like they do it up North."

Unfortunately, then they vote, and what they vote for is exactly why they left up North in the first place.

This fine, formerly conservative state I live in went for Odamna in the last election cycle and a big reason was that the I-4 Corridor has now been overrun with Puerto Ricans from New York.  Now, I've got nothing against Puerto Ricans, but they tend to vote overwhelmingly Dummycrap.

The new Mayor of Houston is already proclaiming that, "Texas is going purple.  Then it's going blue."

The way it's going, there isn't going to be a state left that's friendly to anyone with an independent spirit, who believes in God and guns, who wants to be in a marriage that includes only one man and one woman, and who doesn't want to be in the government dole.

Texas has long been my final "go-to" place when the SHTF.  But they way it's going, that might be off the list sooner rather than later.

According to PA laws regarding transfer of weapons:

Any individual or dealer selling a handgun is required to sell or transfer it at the place of business of a licensed dealer or county sheriff’s office.

Transfers of all firearms (handguns, rifles and shotguns) by a licensed dealer are subject to an instant records check of the purchaser.

The purchaser must sign a transfer application/record of sale for the purchase of a handgun.

So, depending on how much gun trading or bequeathing you intend to do, there are some quirks in PA law to pay attention to. Don't know how closely the state applies those statutes. Perhaps JdeP can shed some light.

Michigan is number 6. The only surprise there is that it wasn't in the top 5. Nobody wants to live in the jobless rust belt.
