Title: 30-30??????
Post by: Outlaw on May 05, 2008, 08:18:43 AM
Hey guys n gals, I've got all types of firearms but never owned a 30-30. I always wanted one, just never bought one. I have a chance to get an almost never fired Marlin 336CS in excellent condition for a decent price ($300). Anybody had any experience with this weapon? I've only seen one report on the blogs about them jamming. All other reports are excellent.

Check out Horandy's LEVERevolution ammo and then www.brockmansrifles.com for the custom work he can do on Marlins.

Get It!!! Almost everyone in my family owns one. We hunt white tail and mule deer with them, sometimes antelope. When ever we saddle up the horses the 30-30 is a must have. We all will stand by them swear by them and shoot the sh*t out of them!

The 30-30 much like the .30 cal has been much maligned but both have some serious close power. Very managible and easy to use. some good aftermarket loadings for both. Kinda been poo-pooed for combat rounds but some say not so fast. Good for hunting and I would grab one in a pinch . I think mikey would have somethin to say about this. ;D

I had a Marlin 336RC, made ca. 1952, same deal, looked almost NIB, sold it a few years later for just under $500 and thought I was being robbed. Had a scope put on it, sweet rifle. They do heat up in semi-rapid fire, though, be forewarned, that barrel gets toasty.
But a very nice rifle.

Love my model 30A (carbine version). Hope you bought it and joined the marlin family. Never had a single problem with mine, so it is my primary go to rifle. Also just about anywhere you go you will find 30-30 ammo at a decent price.

I've owned one for several years. Grab it! If President Obama tells me I can only have one rifle, it will be my Marlin 336.
The Hornady LeveRevolution ammo will make it a 300 yard game gitter.
