Stupid crap like this doesn't help! And the AP was probably thrilled that the idiot was trying to find a "private buyer."

3 hurt in accidental shooting at North Carolina gun show
Published January 19, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. – Officials say three people were wounded when gunfire erupted at a gun show at the North Carolina state fairgrounds.
It happened Saturday at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show, a quarterly event that usually draws thousands of people.
State agriculture department spokesman Brian Long says a 12-gauge shotgun discharged while its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check it at a security entrance.
Two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. A retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury.
Long says the shotgun's owner, 36-year-old Gary Lynn Wilson of Wilmington, brought the weapon to the show to find a private buyer.
Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison says it's too early to know whether Wilson might be charged.
The show shut down early Saturday but will reopen Sunday.

When was the last time you went to a gun show where incoming weapons were not checked and zip tied ?
I've been going to gun shows in 3 states for 30 years and I have never seen it not happen .
-
The dumbass probably opened the case, reached in with his hand to remove the gun and put his finger on the trigger and pulled it out thus firing it.

Hi;
I understand that an unloaded firearm is of no use, BUT damn, if I were to want to sell a weapon, I would clean it up prior to viewing/selling which means that there would have been an inspection of the weapon and no way a round would end up in the weapon.
The guy may have been in a hurry and decided to sell quickly and screwed up, but in this case it is too careless of a "normal" persons responsibilities. He should be charged with something.
-
How did a round get into a presumably checked, and zip tied gun ?

It discharged prior to being inspected by the police.

On another forum it said a total of 5 people were shot at 3 gun shows in the past week. WTH people?

We need EVERY gun owner involved and getting active in the fight, of course, but that involvement may come at a cost. There are folks now going to gun shows and shooting ranges who may have never gone before. Lack of experience, training, and adherence to the basic rules of gun safety lead to accidents like this. We, as experienced gun owners and shooters, need to be even more willing than usual to help and tutor fellow shooters who seem to be unsure of the basics. This is important not only for our own safety but also to cultivate a greater sense of camaraderie and safety in the shooting community.

This is an example of biased reporting.
How many other accidental injuries occurred this weekend? How many were reported with the coverage this incident received?
Sure, gun control is a 'hot topic' politically right now, but that is just when unbiased reporting should be stressed.
Showing that accidental injuries from firearms is just a small percentage of the number of injuries from other causes would be unbiased, not trumpeting the firearms accident with headlines.

They wanted something to counter the gun day we were having...and we gave it to them.
-
If there are 2000 firearms injuries in a year, that comes out to more than 5 a day....so it wouldn't take much for them to pick a day and Headline a firearm injury.
I guess it happening at a gun show makes it double bad.

Copied my post from another thread...
Just a little additional info from the local paper about the nd at the gs Sat.. It seems that a dealer bought a semi-auto from an individual. The mag had been removed but the chambered round had not. The dealer pulled the trigger and the round went off, hit the floor and wounded a customer in the foot and leg. This seems veeeeeeeeeeery strange because I have been going to this show for more years than I can remember and they have very tight rules. No CCW, no loaded guns, no loaded mags (sellers can have loaded stripper clips and Garand clips (?) but nothing in any gun!) and staff and LEO's are at the only public entrance checking and putting zipties on. The lines were so long Sat. morning that they sent out an LEO out to zt before the doors opened and they were still checked as people came in! Shows in 2 other states had nd (5 total injuries). I cannot say for sure but I do know that in the past at several Ohio Gun Collectors Association meetings/shows several guns were found to have live rounds in them and it was a 99% certainty that person or persons unknown did this on purpose to cause injury, trouble, bad press or whatever. This may or may not be the case this weekend. BEWARE!

" staff and LEO's are at the only public entrance checking and putting zipties on. "
That's exactly what I'm talking about, I don't think this "happened", I think it was done on purpose .
I'll be the first to say that the majority of people aren't to bright, but this goes counter to my experience of every gun show I've ever attended.
-
tom, I agree with you but I can't be 100% sure. I also believe that the mass shootings were bought and paid for by gc freaks but I can't be 100% sure. I was shocked when my wife agreed with me!

My first thought, Tom.
There may be a lot of stupid people out there, but there are some bright ones, too. And they ain't necessarily on our side.

This is what civil suits are for. Motivate these idiots to take safety seriously by jacking their insurance rates through the roof. Use the $ to buy an evil black rifle.

This is how things are going to go. We will be villified, portrayed as extremists, and dangerous and idiotic. If you look at the number of accidents vs the number of people at gun shows that day, the incident rate is probably something like .0001 percent. MINISCULE!!!. It just makes good press for the "narrative" that we're all idiots and can't be trusted with guns.
I went to a lever gun match this weekend...12 of us shot 45 rounds each, and no one got hurt.

The Collectivist Mind Game, Part 1: Demonizing the Non-Compliant
By Oleg Atbashian
In the libertarian sci-fi classic, "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress," Robert A. Heinlein describes a successful revolution of the individualistic, free-market-oriented residents of the Moon against the Earth's tyrannical big government. The ins and outs of agitating and organizing the masses to fight the oppressive Authority feel just as realistic as the finer points of everyday life in the underground Lunar cities of the future.
The proposed revolutionary scenario could even serve as a workable model for similar real-life endeavors, if only the renowned futurist author hadn't neglected to factor in the immanent function of any oppressive regime: systemic brainwashing of its subjects through the media, education, and entertainment channels.
If the tyrants on Earth were worth their salt, all the freedom-loving colonists would be subjected to an intense, manipulative indoctrination, which would shape their self-image as small and sinful "little guys" vis-à-vis the powerful, virtuous government that serves the powerless and protects them against all enemies, including themselves.

The Collectivist Mind Game, Part 2: Demonizing the Opposition
By Oleg Atbashian
Part 1: Demonizing the Non-Compliant
Most modern-day leftists in Western countries have abandoned the idea of a violent revolution, having replaced it with "the long march through the institutions" as part of the culture war to transform the society through cultural hegemony. Instead of commanding firing squads, they play mind games of manipulative illusions, in which the demonization of dissent plays a crucial role. The basic premise hasn't changed: as much as the statists want you to love them, they want you to hate their opponents even more.
Until a time when political opposition can be eliminated completely, having opponents can still be useful: you can steal their ideas, take advantage of their desire to help the economy, and blame them for any of your own failures. In the meantime, certain rules must be followed to control the public opinion and, through it, the opposition itself.

Yeah, we all know the script..

Personally, I too think these things are set up. I don't mean some mass hypnosis whatever. I think these mass shootings can be tracked back to the pills they're taking though..
These Gun Shows have got to be a set up..
I can't prove it..
