I live in southern Illinois, did a search on cars.com, and all the St. Louis dealers come up, but none of the local Illinois dealers.
Weird!
The dealers sound like they are ready to deal to get the remaining 2012's off the lot:

It's the only vehicle on the approved list for me as well! The rest don't deserve my patronage anymore.
A bit pricey but if you need what they're charging you for than it works!
-
Just me I'd go with a 250. But nice all the same.
Make sure you dont buy the strippo model off the lot you will regret it. Get the navigation or whatever that you want. I did that with an S-10 and wish like hell I would have got a couple options. But the engine and truck have ran great.
-
I don't have anything to tow, so I don't need to step up to an F-250.
I found another one in St. Louis. giggity...giggity... ;D
4 full size doors and 4X4, and about 10 to 11,000 off the original MSRP.
-
The nav system in my (09) Ford gets lost in the lot it was originally sold from.. It does leave somewhat to be desired, but yeah, Ford would be it. I might consider the new Dodge, just because of the mileage, but the ford will likely last alot longer, (except for those individual cylinder coils that have to be replaced at about 58k miles)..
If you have to plow snow, get the 250.
-

That's the problem with tow-able toys IMHO. (work is different)
Some are damn nice and I'd love to be burdened with such problems but the $$$$ for the toy + the truck that I would have to feed all year long to tow that toy a 1/2 dozen times a year aren't in my plans, and most certainly not in the budget.
It sucks to be retired on a fixed income and only be able to shoot, golf, hunt, shoot, fish, golf and shoot whenever I want. ;D

Can't beat an F-150. As to the elctronics though? I bought a GPS at Boat US for $150. Its sits on the dash, works just fine, and when it breaks, I just buy a new one which is a lot cheaper than getting one that has to come from the dealer. I hate electronic shat on cars as its just something to break. Ask me how much I love my freaking electric windows right now, as if rolling the thing down manually in a standard cab pickup were a chore. >:( As for towing, no need for an F-250 if you don't. I did however opt for the tow package on my F-150. It included a larger battery and an oil cooler. That and the large (I think 5.4 V8) means I can run it at 75 right at 2000 rpms without over heating. The thing is 14 years old and still runs great. I just need to spend $350 to get the damn passenger side window fixed, or not, I don't sit there and it would put a dent in my ammo budget. ;)

Is the problem with the window motor, the window "sash", or could it be the switch on the driver side?
I've taken switches apart and cleaned the contacts with a Q tip soaked in rubbing alcohol.

No clue. I've never owned a car with someting as advanced as an A/C before this one. I'm torn between just ignoring it and getting it diagnosed. But the labor costs of that are half the repair cost, so I'm leaning towards ignoring it. The A/C runs great and I don't sit on the passenger side. :)

Not that my opinion is worth a fart in a tornado...........
Avoid GM and Chrysler. Never, ever do business with them. The thug in the White House, nationalized those two, screwed/buttraped the bond and debt holders to buy union votes, and then gave the companies back to the same management and unions that ran them into the dirt in the first place.
Bailed out the auto industry my ass! Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, and the most 'green' of them all Tesla didn't get bailed out. The ones what didn't get goobermint assistance are the only ones that will ever get my business ever again.

One of my best friends just got one a couple months ago. HE LOVES IT. I'm not a Ford guy but it's a nice truck.
He says it has plenty of power for the light towing he does through mountain highways and is less expensive than the Tundra I'm drooling over.
-
Tyler,
Just buy the truck you feel comfortable in. Sit in it, drive it and haul your significant other in it in a test drive. Put the equipment on it you want and need. You don't need to get 4 doors if it is just you or your SO. Have a larger family, or take your fishing buddies with you, then consider them. Otherwise, those extra 2 doors, added seats and extra body length add serious weight to the truck. That will mean less gas mileage, more wear and tear on running gear (especially 4WD) and brakes, plus you have to get a larger garage to put it in! My preference is the Ford F150 (I own one: 1996 SWB 4x4 w/small V8, AT, AC and P/W/B) and runs fine plus it does fit in my garage. I guess I'm trying to say that my advice is don't fall for a truck you don't need because you find a great price; look for the truck you need and want and buy it. You'll be happier in the long run.
As for not buying a Chevy or Dodge truck (with the built in gun cabinet) because the government bailed them out...the government also provides single women with free contraceptives so you won't touch one because of that? In a way, that's letting the government tell you what not to buy. So what else do they subsidize we shouldn't buy?
-
It's not just the bailout JR, they build a crappy product as well! I worked for GM a lifetime ago, my father retired from GM after 30 years and didn't drive one! Chrysler isn't the company it once was either! I'll never buy another of either. These are my opinions and observations from a mechanical point of view! The bailout was the icing...
As to avoiding girls on free birth control? My wife has a say in that.... ;D
-
Ford guy here too.
Side note on Ford, I use to design automatic transmission - automated assembly machines - for "the big three" and a few other Asian companies.
Ford engineers and quality control people were ALWAYS at our facility for quality inspections - status reports - on their project.
The designs were much better than chevy or chrysler and tolerances in the GO/NO-GO inspection stations also of tighter values.
I grew to love Ford for their attention to detail, over the other two American mfg.
- And as far as your choice of vehicle if it were me I'd go Diesel - I know I know... more expensive fuel, but overall the longevity of all the components (if you keep vehicles like we do) will be with you longer than a gas vehicle.

Hey, ;D I said my opinion wasn't worth a fart in a tornado. 8) Lots of things I don't buy cause of goobermint interference or corporate policy I don't agree with. I usually don't push it on other folks. The 'bailout' bullsnot just gets me all worked up.

Ughh.... What a joke! >:(
I had set up an apointment at 9AM today to meet with a salesperson. Turns out she doulbe or triple booked herself. >:(. So she passed me off to some other dude. Then I was told the truck I was looking at online had already been sold. I had confirmed it Friday late afternoon that it was still there. So I had my choice of a red one or a white one. Test drove the white one, started filling out credit paperwork. I asked yesterday about what paperwork to bring, so I brought it. Then he tells me "Oh, I need X, Y, and Z.". I told him I'd have go back home to find it. So he asked for some money to hold it. I plunked 200 dollars cash. So I drive back home, get the paperwork, and make it back at 3:15.
He had me sitting there from 3:15 til 4:45 for the finance guy, who never got done.
So I told him I wanted my $200 back.
Got my money and took off.
Do I look that stupid to fall for their BS?
Wait, don't answer that!
So, I pee'ed away a whole day.

Did I mention that I think it was a total bait and switch?

It happens...did it to me about ten years ago and I've not been back to that dealer again!
I found a no haggle dealer and dealt with them for a decade or better. I'm two years into this vehicle, it's going to make it at least 8 more before I buy again and then I'll be close to retiring.
-
I like to order my vehicles so I get all the options I want and none that I don't want. I can wait for it.

Tyler,
Old news: My wife had a 1993 Ford Explorer that she just loved, but it was in the shop every two months to get some recall part replaced or fixed and had brakes and electronics foibles. So she traded it in for another, new 1997 Ford Explorer (the dealer asked what the condition was of the 1993 and we told them "like new", he laughed) and got new tires within a year (remember the Firestone mess?), electronics again, brakes...you name it. The 1997 was "crushed" in the cash for clunkers era and wifey now drives (and loves) her Toyota RAV-4 (you know, floor mat accelerator pedal troubles, windows catching on fire and a thermometer that is anal) and she loves it. Why did, does, she love them? Because they fit her to a T; they were, are, drivable. Me? I still drive my 96 F-150 and no recalls!
My point: No car or truck is perfect. No car or truck manufacturer is perfect. And certainly as you found that no car or truck dealer is perfect either. Now if that Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 dealer puts a SCAR 17S in the gun cabinet, I'm buying it!

Buy a little book yoiu can find at any Barnes and Noble etc.. It shows you exactly what dealer cost is on any model and any upgrade. It explains dealer hold over (the interest they pay to the company), and then figure in, taking that into account a 2% profit. Offer them that. Its what companies like Sam's Club offer. I bought my F-150 for $850 over the money the dealer had in it, but it was a cash deal and the truck was the last model year (I'd found what I wanted at a dealer in Oklahoma). I bought a $99 one way ticket on SW Air from Austin to Oklahoma city, a dealer employee picked me up at the airport, and I gave them a bank check and drove the 10 hours home.

It is.... Err.... Was??? about 10 to 11 thousand under the original MSRP/sticker price.
Thanks gor the gouge about that book at Barnes and Noble.
I have insurance through USAA. They have a car buying program. The only catch is you pretty much have build your car througg them and then USAA emails out "certificates" to the participating dealers. I wish you could just enter the VIN of a car that is already on the lot. .
Ughhh...
Somewhere I heard about this thing called "back screen" which somehow ties into the incentives the manufacturer hooks them up on the back end for selling X amount of their cars per year.
Which implies that "invoice" doesn't mean poop.
All smoke and mirrors...argghh...

That's basically what this book, and I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it, but its been 14 years, does. It prices out every upgrade from AC to a CD player. I'm a USAA member and I belong to Sam's. They pay 1.5% over cost, or at least they did. I offered 2% and got my price, plus the hundred mile ride from the airport free as the parts girl (attractive and a country music fan) was in OKC anyway, I just had to stop at a couple of parts houses. It was a slim red book in with the periodicals, not on the book shelves. It cost me about 10 bucks in 1999, and I would recommend you buying one today. Most brands have a website that will show where to find the truck you want. You call, talk to the manager, say "This is my no BS offer, will you take it or won't you"? and go from there. Good luck.
-
KBB.com (Kelly Blue Book) can do pretty much the same on new and used vehicles.
Edmunds.com
I've used Consumer Reports as well! Remember, there are sometimes three negotiations in car buying!
1) Price
2) Financing
3) Trade-in (if you have one)
Don't start the next negotiation until the previous is on paper! Every dealer I've ever seen wants to know what you're willing to pay monthly! It's really something to know in your mind but don't ever let that information out! Keep it to yourself!
-
Thanks!
I am going to try to go through USAA to get financing instead. I think it is bull crap that the dealership needs just about everything including a stool sample and a blood draw to get me financing.
???
I kinda feel like having them finance it, I am losing some of my leveraging power or negotiating power.
-
Sadly thats how it is these days... Getting money is not easy. Even small ammounts. no bs I had employees get loans on houses, that I couldn't becuase I didn't have a W2.

Ahhh....jeeesh.....get this.
The dealership from Saturday sent me a robo-email asking me about my trade in like make, model, miles driven, etc, etc.
I was about to go off! >:(
My plan is to track down the CEO's email address and add him/her as a CC to the reply email I am going to see them.
I am half tempted to mention something about contacting the Missouri Attorney General about the bait and switch. And of course mentioning insiderpages.com as a way to leave reviews about businesses. ;D

Better yet go somewhere else and send the CEO the Bill of Sale and a nice little note about the way he conducts business and CC "Reply All" so they can see everyone that you copied on the email. ;D
