Just goes to prove that cute and smart don't necessarily occupy the same space.
Maybe she will learn a little respect during her 30 days.
Probably not.
She may come out with a brand new appreciation for muscular women sporting colorful tattoos.

Caught this on the local FL news......All I can say is:
-
I have on occasion attended a court session. Mainly traffic and not because I was the defendant...in most cases. I've observed very little respect for "the court". And I'm willing to bet that the judge meted out harsher sentences to those dressed in shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops than those who came in suits and ties. (or business dresses/suits as the gender may dictate.)
My wife and I have both been "stopped" in the past 2 months for some minor traffic infraction. By being polite, and understanding the LEOs point of view, not arguing but giving our point of view, we've both be given "warnings" instead of tickets. Respect and politeness go a long way. We've also committed to memory the officers names and have actually run into one of them in a social setting. We've made a show and gesture of friendship and have, we think, profited from the situation.
-
I will tell you that your attitude has a lot to do with whether we write you a ticket or not. I am glad that the judge got a taste of what we get on the street all the time.

I think we tend to forget that LEOs are just people doing their job.
It's frequently (maybe even mostly) a lousy job with a distinctly unappreciative clientele.
So, when they run into someone who treats them with friendly respect, they are more than likely to return the good attitude.
My last up-close-and-personal with an LEO resulted in him showing me his AR, talking about range time, reflecting on the benefits of his Glock over my Glock (his held more rounds), and deriding the "current occupant."
Of course, some LEOs are simply azzholes and nothing will move them to the nicer side of humanity.
Still, it never hurts to be polite.

Keep your objective in mind.
Is it to teach the judge/Officer a lesson, put them in their place?
Or might it be to gain the best outcome from the encounter in terms of cost to yourself?
If giving a judge a piece of your mind and cussing at them makes you feel better than not spending 30 days in jail, go for it.
Also, the office held deserves respect even if the holder doesn't.
I've always thanked an officer after receiving a ticket, even when they were being a jerk. The respect was to the office they held and the thanks was for the job all of them (well, most of them) do.

Even if your objective is to give the judge a peace of your mind, especially if you are right and backing it up with legal precedents, it best not to cuss.
legal journals will not publish comments such as "According to the f**king Miller decision..."
Remember," it's for the editors" ;D

Judges don't like cussin'........
Blaggarding the court and laying about with threats will get you locked up with haste. ;D ;D ;D

I recall some years ago, I was returning to the home environs from the Huntsville, AL area. TN, KY, and AL, were all pretty lenient with speeders on the interstate. Not so much in Ohio. Crossed the river in Cincy on I-75. Wow, bumper to bumper at 35 to 40 mph was killing me. Traffic broke just at the I-275 interchange and I laid the pedal down. I was doing 85-90 (in a 55) when I crested a small hill and lo and behold, there was a shiny silver Crown Vic sitting in the median and a red dot flashed from the front seat.
I just signaled, slowed to proper speed, changed lanes until I could safely get off on the shoulder. I stopped with only two wheels on the pavement, lowered all the windows, turned on the dome light, shut off the motor. By the time the trooper got to the car, I had license, registration, proof of insurance and etc. in my hands which were on the steering wheel.
Her: Do you know why I stopped you?
Me: I was speeding.
Her: Do you know how fast you were going?
Me: No Ma'am, I was too busy watching traffic to pay attention to the speedometer. (Lying through my teeth)
Her: I had you at 87 in a 55, do you have a problem with that?
Me: No Ma'am, you're the one with the laser.
She took my stuff and went back to her car. Mrs. FBG is giving me hell cause a ticket like this will imperil my employment, cause of the CDL thing.
Trooper comes back to the window.
Her: Mr. FBG, I'm going to let you go with a ticket for 65 in a 55. Don't let me catch you speeding on my watch again. I'll throw the book at you.
Me: Yes Ma'am. Thank you Ma'am. May I ask why you're cutting me slack?
Her: You didn't make me chase you, you didn't try to deny it, your preparation for me to approach you car was very helpful at putting me at ease. Have a nice night Mr. FBG.
Ticket only cost me $100. That should tell you how long ago it was.

I had the basically the same thing happen on I-75 years ago too........ just a different state. ;D ;D ;D

Me, I did the same, guilty as hell of speeding so why lie? I got the ticket, but the officer said nothing about the beer bottle in the drink holder. Granted this was Texas so it was legal as long as you weren't seen drinking from it, but he didn't make me do stupid human tricks or anything (and yes Virginia, I was sober, it was my first after a long thirsty day of hog hunting). Still, if I had been an A-hole he could have made my life difficult. As it was, it cost me about $150 and no stress on either side, even when I informed him of the Glock in the glove box. I just kept my hands on the wheel and told him I had a CHL and there was a gun in the car. He looked at my permit and asked me to keep my hands where they were. He asked whether I'd had any luck hunting, we discussed the area where I'd found a mud hole in WMA the hogs used, and I drew him a map with a big X on the page I tore out of my type II WMA book, and it was all good. He even let me bum a dip from him. Friendly, professional and zero static. Courtesy goes a long way.

I wrote something about this somewhere else and I just want to share my thoughts about this. I don't like what the judge did here. He one is a forgiener as you can tell by his accent. And yes she was immature and didnt care about her charges. But if he wanted to teach her a leasson then he should have explained to her the reason for his decisions. He let his emotions dictate her sentence. This was some sort of drug charge. She said goodbye in her native language. And any decent lawyer would have ate that judge alive.
He is most likely from a country where judges have probably beat offenders and feels he need to bring some of that tyranical authority here to America. I understand the contempt of court charge he gave her but that was after he baited her. He got mad and I'm essence have her the finger by upping her bail. Come one anyone can tell she doesn't have the money to pay eve n a 5000 bail. And now is as tax payers have to pay for this girl to be in jail. Really.
We have judge like this where I live and he really is biased. He lets his emotions dictate charges just like this guy and I have seen him ruin kids lives. He charges them with impossible probation sentences which keep people in the circle of court and fines and charges. Come on really she is a criminal that needs to be in jail. Dumb kid yes. Disrespectful yea but nothing says she has to be a certain way in court. People like him are what is wrong with our system. You have to pay a lawyer for any sort or fair treatment. Cause he has a complex and needs to be shown authority. He could have said to the girl while you are in my court I expect this... out of you. And then if she acts a fool levy a fine but explain to her the reason. Teach her a leasson. All he did was make her more angry and not teach her anything. I think a decent lawyer in the area will pick this up for free for the publicity and beat the charge. The judges actions led to the response he got. My thoughts.

This occurred in south Florida, if I am not mistaken. The judge, most likely, is either a Cuban refugee, or child thereof. The defendant, was angry because the judge would not appoint a public defender because she had jewelry that was 'worth a lot'. Had she answered the judges questions coherently, she would have gotten the public defender and that would have been the end of it. She, however, wouldn't answer the judges questions and laughed when he was informing her of the potential consequences for being disrespectful. When it became apparent that said consequences were coming home to roost, the girl became more disrespectful of the court and the judge.
She only got a little bit of what she deserved. Too bad, so sad.
