Not a big deal, but I'm surprised this wasn't done years ago to cut costs. Just means the mailbox will be more full of bills on Mondays. ;D
Postal Service to end Saturday mail delivery
The service reduction begins in August, but six-day package delivery will continue.
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Postal Service took another major step in its battle for fiscal viability Wednesday, announcing plans to halt Saturday delivery of first-class mail.
Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said package delivery, which has seen growth in recent years as online purchasing booms, will continue when the plan is implemented in August. He said the plan is expected to save $2 billion annually.
"It's an important part of our strategy to return to financial stability," he said.
The announcement drew mixed reviews on Capitol Hill, where the plan has drawn fierce opposition in the past.

As a person who still tries for the normal week and weekend thing, I would prefer Tuesday through Saturday delivery. Actually, for those of us who don't get newspaper delivery and rely on the postal service, this drops one day of newspaper ... sucks!

Sad thing about this, closing on Saturday saves 1.7 billion! That still leaves an additional 14.3 billion they'll lose if this years losses match 2012.
Doing the math, they could close the USPS the other five days of the week and STILL LOSE 5.8 BILLION annually!
What a friggin' racket....

isn't $5.8 Billion close to the annual stipend the post office has to put up for the annual pension fund advance payment? So, if you closed it down, does that go away?

I doubt it! Like most pensions, the .gov will buy them up with that slush fund we taxpayers pay for...there are hundreds of billions of pension payouts that the original companies, now defunct, have given over to the .gov...

You're surprised ?
USPS is run by The US Govt.
These are the same people who lost money operating the Mustang Ranch, the most famous whore house in America.
