Title: Strange letter from Sen. Nelson
Post by: crusader rabbit on February 12, 2013, 11:22:19 AM
I received this email from Sen. Bill Nelson(D-FL) exactly as I present it here (I have redacted only my name and email address ).

The portion that was struck through is of particular interest to me.  Was it intentional?  Was it supposed to go out like that?  Does he not believe we have a right to self defense?  I don't know what to make of this.

Please do not reply to this e-mail.  If you need to send another message to Senator Nelson, please use the form on his Web site:  http://billnelson.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm#email

Dear Mr. ******:

Thank you for contacting me about protecting Second Amendment rights.

I grew up on a ranch and have been a hunter since I was a boy.  I have had guns all my life.  I support a person's constitutional right to bear arms.  I support the Second Amendment.

In 2008, the Supreme Court of the United States affirmed that the Second Amendment protects a person's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to military service, and to use that firearm for traditional lawful purposes like self-defense within the home. This is the law of the land.

I appreciate hearing your views on this subject. Hearing from you helps me to better serve you in the Senate.

                                   Sincerely,
                                   Bill Nelson

P.S. From time to time, I compile electronic news briefs highlighting key issues and hot topics of particular importance to Floridians.  If you'd like to receive these e-briefs, visit my Web site and sign up for them at http://billnelson.senate.gov/news/ebrie

That is strange.

My only thought is that he is being sabotaged by an aide that does not agree with his 2A stance, although that doesn't seem likely to happen like this.

I have received e mails that came up like that from sources that had no earthly reason to strike out anything.
For example, a joke from a former co worker.
It may just be a computer glitch somewhere although it is odd that the glitch would strike just that particular line.
I'd inquire .

Hi;

is he 1 of the 20+ democrats up for reelection ? If so can he be trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth - pleasing both sides of the issue ?

He's a politician, do you even have to say it?

He actually won re-election in 2012. He is one of the most condescending, Botox, elitist swine in Florida. Just like Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz, she also won re-election in 2012.

Yet Allen West, was defeated in a rigged district.

Its all freakin rigged, and Nelson is a BIG part of the problem.

This is the text of the email response I got from Bill Nelson dated  Jan  23rd :

"   Thank you for contacting me about policy proposals that seek to reduce gun violence in the wake of the tragedy in Newtown.

I am a hunter and have always owned guns, and I support the Second Amendment.

But assault weapons such as AK 47s are intended for killing, not hunting.

Solutions for reducing gun violence must address many areas, from protecting law enforcement and keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals, to school safety, access to mental health services, and confronting a culture that sometimes glorifies violence.

I support reinstating the assault weapons ban and restoring the 10-round limit for ammunition magazines. And, I support universal background checks so that we can know if person buying a weapon has a criminal record.

I appreciate hearing your views on this very important issue, and I will keep them in mind.  Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.

                                   Sincerely,
                                   Bill Nelson

Well, that somewhat explains the first letter posted here.

He sent the first one partially edited.   With the strike through removed, he could claim the SCOTUS ruled that you can keep weapons for hunting.....as was the thrust of his second letter posted here.

Doesn't sound like that is a surprise to those in his area.

But if you read the Miller decision which has been linked several times lately, you will find the SCOTUS ruled just the opposite of that.

We know that and, obviously he knows it since it was the strike out in the first letter, but I don't think he will let facts stand the way of his rhetoric.

Bill Nelson had on his website that he supported closing the "gun show loop hole" and wanted to ban "assault weapons like the AK-47" long before December.

He is not a proponent of the 2nd Amendment.

He's been crazy as hell the whole time he's been there. He got elected because he was an Astronaut..
The reason it didn't get as much play is because the big papers down there like em that way, and Governor (Senator) Bob (Graham) was more wigged out than he is..
Kinda makes one miss Jack Eckerd, huh..
It's only been till recent years since Tampa and Miami ran/owned that state. Old school Dems/Mafia in NY, NJ, MI and a little MA kinda pulled the strings, along with all the damned attorneys and Pharma..
It wasn't till working people started moving down there till the place started getting a little more "normal"..

(I left there, practically speaking, and legally in 92. No offense to TW, CR or FQ. No offense intended. Just how it was way back when..)

I've been paying attention to Nelson for years.  Definitely NO FRIEND of 2A!  If you try to email him through NRA or GOA websites, they won't go through.  They make you print a letter to send snail mail.  Ruger's link does go through to him.
