Kidding!
I was going to the market and they've parked this in a small memorial park for Iraq and Afghan war Veterans.
I'm guessing it's an M60? Probably never saw service but no one's gonna sell an M1 Abrams yet...

M 60 Yes.

What era Tom, 60's to 80's?
We started building the M1 Abrams in the early 80's correct? I think I was working for General Dynamics by then.
-
M60s were still in service past the first Gulf War. USMC didn't start getting M1A1s until the mid-90s.
-
I believe there is at least one known privately owned Abrahms inyhe us.
-
Most interesting part of the M60 were those two big black exhaust screens at the back. Well, they were interesting as long as they didn't accelerate while you were standing behind one admiring them.
-
What J said.
I'm not sure but I don't believe NG unit's got them till after the Gulf war either.
-
This is actually a M60A3. It was standard issue from late 1970's till mid/late 1980's, depending on unit. I spent MANY an hour driving/shooting/commanding these. The Abrahms were officially adopted in 1984/85, if memory serves me. In late 1985, there was only 1 division equipped with them.

I've been watching how they moved the M60 into position on the public access channel. Brought in on two flatbeds and craned the chassis into position and then the gun turret. Pretty neat..

Hi;
I guess the most important thing is that there is a park dedicated to the Gulf War Vets. We see plenty for the WW2 Vets , maybe a few Korean , hardly any VietNam. With the older generation passing and the younger generation not into dedications of any sort, it is good to hear of something dedicated for the GW Vets.

The town I'm temporarily residing in here in MA has a central park that has graves from men that fought in the Revolutionary war and dedicated memorials to every conflict since. They're working on the Iraq and Afgan wars now... They're small but still have a purpose. It's all privately funded though the park is maintained by the town.

Here in Laconia there are monuments to not only Vn war vets, but Beirut, Panama, Grenada, as well as GWI.
