Title: quick question about taurus
Post by: Galeth005 on May 11, 2008, 01:28:42 PM
so i've been looking into a few other forums and other peoples opinions and most seem to say that taurus are horribly made guns, i really like the way they feel and fire, howerever i dont want to buy a gun that will end up spending more time in the shop than on the range. so essentially my question is how realiable is taurus?

I shoot and carry the PT140  and am in process of getting a PT145  to carry and giving the 40 to the wife to replace her 649. Little break in period and your good to go. Of course the revolvers have always been good IMO . little trouble with their Small auto loaders in the beginning but I trust them.

Have an old Taurus .357 wheel gun, goes bang every time I pull the trigger, no issues with years of full power loads. And at least a 1000 or so of .38's.

Didn't mention whether you were leaning semi auto, or revolver, The reviews of the 24/7 OSS semi look promising.

Test drive em if you can.

I have carried several Taurus .357 Mag revolvers for personal defense oiver the years, I've heard that customer service leaves a bit to be desired, but I have NEVER neede to use them.

Freind of mine carries that, 2 things, Mags from Midway do not fit, and the front sight screw loosens up.

I carry a 24/7 Pro Compact daily, if it had any issue I wouldn't carry it.  I have over 2500 rounds through it with no problems.

I have been shooting SA Taurus  revolvers, for more than a year, and the revolvers are solid, well built and reliable, have no need for a gunsmith yet, I feel that they are built for life, I have researched  the company, and found no problems so far, the other advantage is that that they are very affordable, sincerely, Jack Balas, SASS MEMBER # 76509.

My only complaint about my Taurus 9mm autoloader is that the open top slide has a tendency to drop hot brass down the front of my shirt.  Other than that it's a GREAT gun!!  Goes bang EVERY time I pull the trigger, and it's previous owner carried it on duty (S.O.) for 3 years before I bought it.  VERY dependable weapon.

I used to have a Helwan (Egyptian copy of Berretta M 51) The damned thing used to consistantly put the brass on top of my head, I will never own another Berretta semi auto, If I want to be abused I will get married again.

Friend had a 1911 that you could almost aim the brass with.  It shot straight out about 6 ft.

My command's last trip to the range with our M9s I was at the end of teh line and the range coach was giving me crap about draws just over 1.5 sec.  I told him I'd be faster if I wasn't getting the guy next to me's brass in my shirt every time.

I HATE that  ;D I always try to get on the left end of the firing line when I'm shooting out doors. It's worked so far but I KNOW one of these days I'll run into some stinker with a Stag Arms left hand AR   ;D
