You bought a Glock? ;)
-
Do tell. Pictures would help in counseling. Of course, for truly in-depth help I'd need to have both the 1911's and your new friend spend some time at my clinic.
-
ME TOO! Picked up a Gen 3 17 on a GSSF cert. Haven't had time to shoot it but ammo is ready to go. Enjoy m58.
Richard
PS: Took me 5 1/2 mos. to get mine even ordered thru a police supply!

Gen 4 17!
I have never had a Glock, and I have only shot one once before - Some compact thing in 40 our local PD carries. I gave my M&P9 to the kid for Christmas, and I was feeling hollow. With the barren shelves I ask every time I'm in my pushers' places.
Last night on my way home from the Cities I was in one place and asked about either a M&P9 or a Glock in 9 and got laughed at again. I was reminded there isn't even 9 mm ammo out there. I went down the street to the next place and after chatting I said "Well, before I go I have to ask if you have any M&P's or Glocks in 9" The guy's eyes got real big: "We had a Glock come in TODAY, and the guy that wanted it is backing out."
He brought out the box, I petted it a little, and said I'd take it. He quickly said "You'd be an idiot not to!"
The dark side now has a citizen in my gun room.

I think you'll love it for the simplicity alone. I love my gen4 G26 and would pick up a G17 if only I could find one.
-
My 27 has been my constant companion for very many years, now.
I would not willingly give it up.
Once you go black, you'll never go back.

I've seen that 27 - it's had a lotta' luvin'.

I got a Glock as my first semiauto but I always had trouble hitting with it. If I slow down and really focus I can stay on target. I just thought it was me until I bought a 1911 and suddenly it was easier to stay on target and I was a lot faster! Since then we bought an SR9 and SR9C and both feel and shoot great.
I think it is mostly the grip angle is too steep for me. It is a nice gun, shoots all day with no complaints and easy to clean. I put a Hogue grip band on it and it fits my hand better but still does not point naturally for me or my son.
I have seen some stuff lately about aftermarket ways to trim the back of the grip to change the angle. Anyone got any experience with this?
-
I have my dad's 26 and it stays in the safe, I need to get a IWB holster for it and I'd probably carry it more. I carry my XDM 45 4.5 everyday instead... ???
Good holster makes a world of difference and I like 45 ;D

M58, you will still love, cherish and admire all your 1911s.
You might find, though, that your Glock is hanging out with you most often.
Be sure to check out the thread that was running on smoothing the trigger...nothing difficult, just some careful stoning to smooth some contact surfaces. I think the thread was the work of Badgersmilk and that Peg followed the procedure.
Also get to Lone Wolf Distributors and check out the the different weight Connectors, trigger springs and the NY Trigger setup. Using different combinations, you can change your trigger pull from a smooth 8lb to a smooth 1.5lb and many between in minutes with drop in parts.
http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=Main%20Page Can't beat the interactive exploded diagram there
Also check out the Ultimate Trigger Stop http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1024&CAT=163
I prefer this design over the Ghost connector design for over travel adjustment.
You also might want to check out the great videos for the Glock at AGI. They can be expensive and you may find much of the info on YouTube or the net, but there is a lot of good info there.

I'm sure it will work into the stable just fine. First it needs a good bath, which will happen tomorrow (Saturday bath night) with my carry guns. Then it is lots of use and off to the leather shop for new leather (In the morning I pick up my brand new leather for the 1911).
Three adjustments:
1. It is a 9mm;
2. No thumb rest;
3. Not as streamlined as the 1911.
Plus side:
It is a gun!
-
I've given up looking for a 9mm Glock.
Now I'm searching the parts I need to convert my 23 or 27. From quickly looking I think all I need is a barrel, extractor and mags and a trigger housing. Pretty cheap for a 'new' 9mm.
I'm still kicking myself for not picking up the FDE G19 I saw at Cabela's. I knew it was mismarked $50 less than the other ones and I passed it up. ::)
BTW, Welcome to the Dark Side. Did you get your cookies?
-
Well m58, the good news is for Sat. Night, just take it in the bath with you or the dishwasher. Both do the trick. When I was seduced by the dark side, it was for a G21. "Railroad Tie With Grip" but the damn thing has an appeal that makes me lug that thing around.
My 1911 has accepted the role as the "distinguished .45" while the G is the one that can be the down and dirty girl, and if I don't clean her up for a day or two, she doesn't care.

When I bought my G23 package (.40) it came with the Lone Wolf 9mm barrel and two G19 magzines. No extra extractor. Just swap out the barrel and go.
-
I was thinking of using OEM parts but there would be slop between barrel/slide.
I'm going the route yours has and just use the conversion barrel. The mags are already ordered.
While I was on Cabela's site, I saw a 31 round .40 mag so I ordered one just to piss off Gabby, Mark and Fineswine. :)

Dude, you bought a good gun! Don't piss and moan about it. It will kill BGs dead at 25 yards every time if you yank the trigger right (and yes I'm being past giving a crap about PC). Thing is the glock is the most un PC pistol out there. It's designed to do one thing. And it does it very well. Be happy with the new gun. Its a fine piece of hardware and don't apologize to anyone for owning it.

Alf promised me cookies when I came to the dark side,,,,,, still waiting on the cookies and now waiting for bullet mfgs. to catch up on orders. ;D ;D

Congrats!!!!!
Much like MB, I shower with my 1911 ... The joys of stainless steel ;D
In our carry classes the lead instructor talks about needing to sleep with his on to break the holster in. When he points out my holster (he wears a pancake, and I have a IWB) and then one of us points out that I clean mine by wearing it in the shower. Jokes flow because he carries a blue commander, and mine is a SST government. I think most of the people in the class think we really do ::)
-
I must admit that I too have gone over to the dark side. I still have great affection for my 1911. But the new gen Glocks fit my hands! I have long recommended them to other shooters as I knew then to be great guns. I trained many people to use them and have the utmost confidence in them. Now I just have to make my 1911 understand that I still love it, I just need to see other guns.
-
I've been shooting and owning guns for 50 plus years but went on a kind of hiatus after getting married and raising my children, number one I could'nt afford them and other things became more important. When I re entered the gun world I bought a Glock 26,it was a great gun,I liked it so much I bought a big brother for it in the form of a Glock 23 .After a while my interests started to change so I sold them and persued other avenues such as my Ruger SR9C,FNP9M,FNP45 USG,ATI commander length 1911 and so forth.Skip forward to about 3 weeks ago I bought aother Glock in the form of a G36 and love it so much that it is my main carry now ( my Ruger SR9c feels neglected now). The G36 is slimmer than the others in the Glock line, pretty close in size to my SR9c.
-
As much as I don't really care for Glock's, I've never been able to say anything bad about them. Frankly, my only grip is that I think they are ugly as sin. That is of course just my opinion. Overall I think Glock makes great guns. I would never hesitate to pick one up, in fact my better half carries one. I just don't know that I could ever choose a Glock over my Sig.
-
For all the focus on dehorning 1911's, the Glock is truly a block with lots of hooks and snags.
-
And damn finger grooves!!!!! G17 fits OK but the G19 I really want does not. G26 I will probably get next will fit w/adaptor on the mag. Oh yes, I agree, they are butt ugly!
FWIW

I won my G23 in a shooting contest. It came with the 9mm conversion barrel. It's my bedside gun. Plus I take it on any overnight road trips with both barrels and 4 mags of each caliber. Double the foraging opportunities.
The G17 & 35 I bought to compete in GSSF matches.

Gonna have to cancel that conversion barrel order. CABELA'S HAS GLOCKS! (1 less now)
They had a bunch of FDE Glocks in several different calibers. They even had 45acp ammo!
A Flat Dark Earth G19 followed me home. ;D
Same price as the one I passed on 3-4 months ago. Now I can stop kicking my own ass for not buying it earlier.
Off to the desert to do some function testing...I'm sure there will be no surpises.
-
Thinking about a G 20 myself.
It's $250 less than the Springfield 1911 that I would prefer.

You won't regret it. Due respect to JMB, but its the finest defensive hand gun ever built. Big enough for carry (so saith the NYPD) and small enough to conceal easily (so saith me who carries one IWB on many occasions). It also holds 15 rounds in a standard mag or 17 if you buy the +2 floorplate and finger extension (which I like if its factory). Its a great buy regardless of your preferred flavor of range gun. This will always go bang, you can shoot a palm sized group at 10 yards no worries, and you can conceal it with a decent mag capacity. What's not to love?Just put some better sights on it if you have the time and money (just like a 1911), but the factory ones will do.
-
Finger groves + Dremel tool = custom fit. ;D
-
Here is a link to a Brownell's page showing the procedure to do some grip work on the Glock.
It includes some part numbers for a filler that can be used in shaping the grip and constructing a beaver tail.
It could also be used in custom fitting or removing and re-blending the finger groves...if you like this kind of work.

M58....
Glocks blow...they're plastic and ugly...
But I'd own one if I had the cash....I can live with ugly. I've become accustomed to seeing it when I shave in the morning...but I want my 1911 back...

Mikey. Dude. You shoulda called me, I'd have done my best to talk you down. :'(

Well I found one. Ammo shortage may reduce the number of range sessions but the first trip is going to be this weekend. Hopefully I'll get a report on the Sig C3 also.
