I hear that Cabelas has a new store planned for the North end of Denver along I-25 but have no idea how far along the project is. I am curious if it is still in the planning stages if they could be convinced to cancel it and tell Colorado to pound sand. That would be another big bite in the butt for the Denver elite in terms of tax revenue and jobs lost. I will be glad to go up to Sidney Nebraska and patronize that store instead. Anyone know how far along the denver store project is? Also, I can't seem to find a way to contact the corporate officers directly, all e-mail access is geared toward customer service, jobs, and that kind of thing. No options for general questions or comments like this one. ???

A few yrs (5+/-) back Cabelas was going to build a superstore similar to the one in Neb. along I-70 and Hwy 58 in Wheat Ridge. The city and state helped fund and build a fly over off I-70 for better access to the new site and the city had granted them special tax incentives.
Cabelas graded the earth for the building site and made a small lake that would be used for fishing and testing boats. When the economy went south, Cabelas held off for a few yrs. then just pulled the plug in 2012 on their superstore when things didn't improve.
Last word on the street was they were still looking at building a store in Den. metro area but a much, much, much smaller one, there were a couple of other Den. metro cities that were trying to get Cabelas into their areas. I don't know where the whole Cabellas thing stands now.
That's all the news I know.

locnload,
Go to Cabela's Facebook site and drop a note to them about your proposal so everyone can see it. There is no Cabela's in MD so I go to the one in Hamburg, PA, keeping wifey happy by stopping at the PennNat Casino. Given what is happening to us in MD re gun control, I won't patronize any MD business for my hunting and shooting supplies. Since I hunt on my own land, I don't need a hunting license either. Money is the only thing that talks in MD, probably the same in CO. Good luck.

As you go down this avenue you need to remember a few things about Cabela's and firearms:
1. Firearms are just a small part of their overall market;
2. Their firearms department is geared mainly at hunting with a nod to other areas;
3. Their entire marketing plan is to tie all departments together into an experience.
These three areas show that Second Amendment is not a priority in their marketing plan.

Nor should it be. They're a business not a lobbying group. I expect people like P-mag and Barret to pull out of states that ban their product. To do otherwise is hypocrisy. But Cabelas and Bass Pro would as soon sell me a fishing rod as an AR. As you said, its a tiny slice of their business. I don't expect them to be martyrs over this. Gun makers and ammo companies I do expect to go to the mat. But retailers? Should every gun store in NY, Md. and California close up shop, particularly if banned items aren't their big sellers?

If hunters and fishermen are going to boycott a state because of it's gun laws there is no point building a Cabela's where there is no market.

I'm not planning on visiting New York as protest, but mostly because I have zero desire to go there. ;D But if I lived there I wouldn't stop hunting, fishing or shooting either. I'd have to buy my stuff somewhere and I'd as soon buy it locally as online.

Just proves how stupid you are since you can do both for less with fewer restrictions in Vt.

That's not the point, I don't live in vermont (and neither do you). If NH were to pass NY style laws would you stop buying ammo for you 1911 or moisin at your local gun shop?

Yes. I can already get a better bulk price on line.

Tom is right, but I do see FQ's position re state residents. It's not a matter of price as much as it is a matter of principle. I will not support businesses that either promote or quietly acquiesce to the gun control lobbies. The only way I can express this is by boycotting those businesses that do so. I publicize this as much as I can to state and local representatives so they understand that there are consequences to their actions. Money is the only thing they understand, so money is what I withhold from them.
In two respects, I am fortunate to live in MD: (1) the prices are high here (due to taxation without representation--e.g. $30 annual "flush" tax for my septic system) and the added travel adds little to the overall cost of doing business out of state, and (2) the damn state is so small that travel distances to out-of-state sources is not a problem. I have ceased to buy shooting supplies via the internet because MD collect sales taxes and therefor records the transaction, besides "you know who" is watching. Am I shooting myself in the foot by doing this? Yes, but better my foot than my freedom!

How do you ship anything?
Both UPS and FedEX follow all the legal restrictions in place for shipping firearms and will probably continue to do business in states that are working to increase their firearms regulations.
I guess not using the Post Office is a given.

Talking with guy @ work and he told me Cabala's has built down south along I-25 & Lincoln, I haven't verified it yet. He said the bldg. is almost done and about the size of Bass Pro out by Dicks Sport fields @ north east Denver.
