Every now and then...you're just in the right place at the right time.
Let me start this off by saying that I was completely enamoured by the new Ruger LCP when it was released at SHOT this year. But, after asking around at the local gun shops...sounded like it might be a while before I was able to lay my hands on one. So, I decided that I would look again next year.
In the mean time...I've been pre-spending my "Stimulus" money. I've been in the market for a summer carry gun. I was looking for something in the price range of $300 or so. I took the P3AT off my list, because I wanted to wait for the LCP. Some of the contenders have been the Bersa .380, Taurus M85, Charter Arms, etc...
Last Friday, I decided that I would go to one of my favorite local gun shops over lunch time to drool on their counter. This particular shop doesn't mind letting me fondle the merchandise. They've even let my stuff guns in my pocket/waistband to see how they fit. Which is why they get most of my business.
Anyway...as I was drooling over the snubby wheel-guns, I glanced over at the small auto section and saw a Ruger LCP in the used gun section (yes, used). I asked if I could see it. I inquired if it was truly a used gun. The guy behind the counter told me that a customer bought it...took it out and shot it...and brought it back the next day. I asked if there was anything wrong with it and was told that the guy bought it as a plinking gun and didn't like the amount of recoil he got from a 9 oz. pocket rocket.
Needless to say, I slapped some cash on the counter and had them put it in layaway. Now I'm just waiting to be "Stimulated". Hopefully, I'll be posting some gun porn in the next couple of weeks.
The gun shop said that they had just put the LCP in the case about an hour before I showed up. So...it really was my lucky day.

OK, got my IRS "rebate" check - auto deposited in my account. The hard part is what to buy. Not because there is a long list of possibilities - like most of us here I have a very long list of goodies.
No, the problem I have is one I hope no one else has. My rebate check was $23.50. And no, the decimal point isn't in the wrong place. I got twenty-three dollars and fifty cents. Not quite $600, eh? ??? ???

Well...I finally got my check. So I went and picked up the little LCP this weekend. I like it a bunch. It is exactly what I was looking for in a summer carry gun. I stuffed it in a little IWB carried at 4:00 with a t-shirt over it...even my family didn't notice I was carrying. I had it on all day (even while replacing the water pump on my wife's Blazer) and just barely knew it was there. All-in-all, I'm pretty darn happy with my purchase. 8)
I will start a new post once I suck the pictures off my camera and give you guys my impressions after its first trip to the range.

Congrats....dang them water pumps...always cuttin' into the ammo budget.

What check?????

Well Tumblebug, what it is..is..you works hard, pays in lots of taxes from your check. You plan to pay your bills and pay the mortgage, so you don't spend it ALL on total crap. The merchants want to sell you more stuff than you can pay for, but you save your money and don't buy what you don't need. The merchants are hurting because you won't spend your last nickel, so they whine to the government. The "economy" is suffering and it's YOUR fault!! The politician's answer is to give you back some of the money they didn't need to take on April 15th, leaving it with you to spend, hopefully abandoning common sense, in hopes that when you get it back now, you will rush out and spend it on the crap you didn't need to buy the first place.
That's what's the check.
Mac.
ps. guns and ammo are ALWAYS a necessity.

By buying cheap plastic guns from Europe through U. S. importers of course.I repeat WHAT CHECK?

What check?????
