Essex County to oppose N.Y. gun control law

ELIZABETHTOWN - The Essex County Board of Supervisors is expected to pass a resolution opposing New York state's new gun law at a special meeting tonight.

Tonight's agenda includes three items related to the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act: a recommendation to pass a resolution calling for repeal of the law, a recommendation to pass a resolution opposing a proposed bill that would require gun owners to obtain liability insurance, and consideration of any other resolution relating to the gun law.

Essex County Sheriff Richard Cutting is also expected to present information about the SAFE Act.
