Title: Is This a Good Trade
Post by: Outlaw on May 12, 2008, 06:27:11 PM
I have a guy wanting to trade me his practically new Marlin 336CS with 18 rnds thru it with very nice wood for my Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Mag in very nice condition. About 100 rnds thru it. Its been a safe queen for years. I've always wanted a 30-30 lever gun so i'm tempted. Any thoughts??????

BTW, this is the same rifle the guy wanted to sell me for $400, not $300, in my last posting. He corrected me on that very quickly. My error in the posting. I haven't seen the Ruger going for that much lately. This guy has all the calibres except the .357. That's why he wants it so bad.

Not being a wheel gun fan, and loving thre Marlin 336, I would go with the trade. I am still lamenting the sale of my 336RC. Mine had a scope on it (got it at an auction for like $5 and had a gunsmith friend mount it for me) and I sold the whole rig for $475. Don't know the value of the Ruger, but I would definately take the trade. With a scope they are good out to 2-300 yards easily. Great varmint gun, only they will heat up if you put 2 or 3 tubes of ammo through them in a short period of time. Don't ask how I know . . . . :D

You don't shoot the pistol but you will shoot the rifle ? Go for it. If the rifle will be a safe queen as well I'd say keep the pistol and buy the rifle later.

Go for it.  If you have a safe queen, but will get more enjoyment and use from something you want, why not?

Some day you may say to yourself, "Darn, I wish I'd made that trade."

Just make sure your blackhawk does not look like the one they are giving away. ( flat top ). ???

Oh, it's at least a 9 on the 1-10 scale. But, so is the 30-30. Only 18 rnds fired. About 100 thru the Blackhawk   :-\
