http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/28/here-are-the-10-freest-states-in-the-u-s-and-the-least/
North Dakota is the freest state in the U.S., followed closely by South Dakota, Tennessee, New Hampshire, and Oklahoma, according to the Mercatus Center at George Mason University’s third annual “Freedom in the 50 States.”
The 223-page report “scores all 50 states on their overall respect for individual freedom, and also on their respect for three dimensions of freedom considered separately: fiscal policy, regulatory policy, and personal freedom,” the study explains. Surprisingly, Texas did not make the top 10 and was ranked the 14th most free state.

Interesting report, but gun laws only account for about 2% of the ranking so I find the section where they rank the states by that more useful to me. You gotta love Libertarians and their ability to create beautiful complex world models that will never survive the first storm! I would identify myself as one politically if they didn't come off as such a bunch of panty waste pin headed debating society dweebs.
I have always favored Robert Heinlein's term Rational Anarchist: I don't need all your laws to behave myself but obviously you do so I will mostly accommodate myself to your rules to avoid conflict. Kind of like and adult dealing with a child's fantasy world.
Interesting that the rankings IMO accurately put NY as about 3x worse (3 standard deviations for your libertarian debaters ;)) than any other state on many of the metrics. Also it looked to me that some of the rankings are distorted by the wide range in relative size of each state's economy (e.g., ND vs. CA).
thanks for sharing it.

I trust you meant panty waist. Panty waste conjures up a highly unpalatable vision.
Those homonyms are reel troublemakers.

Born free and Live freer. I like that.

Odd. ND is a great state, no doubt. I've lived here for a decade now. But there is
- a personal income tax of 3% (hardly free)
- a state use (not sale) tax that applies to damn near everything, and localities can add to it
- the state Constitution recognizes the right to keep and bear arms in paragraph 1 of Section 1 of Article 1
- the CCW laws are shall issue, but still not the greatest, as CCW is excluded in a lot of places that should be free; former Chief of Fargo PD stated he would interpret the laws how he wanted to; state pre-emption applies, thankfully.
And I'm moving to a state in the middle of the list, albeit it ranked very high in the recent Guns & Ammo listing.
