Attended the annual Brownells Gunsmith Career Fair in Des Moines, Iowa this week. Learned a lot in the seminars, met some interesting people and strengthened some previously established contacts. Dropped a few resumes and did some on site interviews and will follow up with a few more resumes sent by mail or email.
Spoke to Doug Turnbull a few times, Jon Tank from Cylinder and Slide (Roy Huntington from American Handgunner wanted me to show him my 1911), Weatherby, Independent Studio Supplies and Bart Miller (gunsmith manager for Bass Pro Shop).
Also had the opportunity to display some of my work:

Stock on the Winchester 94, custom 1911, 2 examples of engraving and my portfolio.
The only disappointment was that Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing did not show up.

Nice work.
I REALLY like that 1911. ;D
-
Yes, that 1911 is just fantastic.
-
Sounds like a great experience. I'm sure some of the connections you have made will last a lifetime.
Fantastic work also Mericet.

That is an attractive 1911.
Not sure how to define it..seems ultra modern somehow yet basic.
How about some more views of it?
Good work

Nice stuff. ;D
Good job Mericet!
-
Beautiful work!
How long have you been gunsmithing?
-
Thank you everyone.
I am not quite finished with the 1911 as I have not removed all the machine marks from it yet. Will post more pictures when that happens. And it seems I was successful in my vision for the 1911. I wanted something basic that still looked a little different but still very subtle.
JoeG, I am in my fourth semester of six in the Associates Degree gunsmithing program at Montgomery Community College in Troy, NC.

I think I can say we're all proud of you Mericet. I know you'll get a top spot with one of the shops.

Outstanding work....glad you got to show it off and make some important connections.
I also anxiously await the completion of that 1911. :D
