And if nine of these yahoos had voted no this bill would be dead. I want no more lectures about voting GOP. If this is what you get, what's the point. I'm back to voting L. I'd rather "throw my vote away" than give it to a judas. Though if enough of us start doing this, it won't be thrown away will it?

I was sorely disappointed in both of my senators from ND, 1 R and 1 D. Hoeven is a RINO, that has been apparent for some time. I have been letting him and Heitkamp know my views, apparently to no avail.

To Kelly Ayotte
With your vote to support further infringement of the 2nd Amendment you have consigned yourself to the scrap heap with Dick Swett.

I sent a comment to Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) after his support of the UN arms treaty.

"Senator Brown, I heard that you voted to support of allowing the UN to be in control of American's Constitutional Rights.  Is this true or is it just another smear campaign?"

I will usually get a form letter response, but nothing from this one.

I'm sure glad contacting both senators from AZ worked.  ::)
Now I guess I'll ask them what they are going to do with their spare time after the next election cycle.

Spineless traitors indeed!

Well hey, at least we now know what a second term McCain Presidency would look like in re gun control. A whole lot like a second term BO Presidency. I don't even want to think about the amendments that will be tacked on to this "moderate compromise" bill. Screw them. I've voted for the Dems, I've voted for the GOp and all I got was this burning sensation in my ass. Screw them both. I've taken enough, I can't take no more. I'm outta there. Its Libertarian for me. Hell, even Rubio, who did the right thing here is going to screw us on immigration. I'll probably vote for him out of gratitude but in other races its L.

Hi;

Although this bill has zero chance of passing the full Senate. The reason that these people voted to advance the bill for a full vote was to not look like they were total obstructionists. Later down the line, when republicans gain control of the Senate - they will remind the Democrats to be civil when 1 of thier bills is up and coming.

Not that I agree totally with all of this, It does serve a purpose that things must be moved on and a vote has to be taken. A lot of other issues need the attention of the Senate, and if this bill is a obsticle, then vote on it and move on.

It's going down anyway, why let the Liberals have something to complain about....

If this were a budget or tax bill I would agree completely. Lets have the debate. Hell, it were a proposed Constitutional amendment to repeal the 2A I would also favor a debate. Its what the Senate is there for. BUT....when it is an unconstitutional bill it should never make it out of committee much less see a debate where even more unconstitutional amendments be hung on it like a Christmas tree (and doubtless some pork thrown in to sway fence sitters). Any one who hands pandora's box to a bunch of idiots should lose their job.

I'm proud to say that no Republican Senators from Maryland voted for this. I'm not so proud to point out that there are no Republican Senators from Maryland. But if we did have Republican Senators from Maryland, they would have shown some backbone, I'm sure. Not absolutely sure, but almost absolutely sure. Well actually not sure; probably would have been 18 traitors instead of 16!

Sadly, The "Republican/RINO Party" is rapidly accelerating into the Dead Elephant Party, A Conservative portion is also quickly fracturing away from the stench.

I just emailed both of my senators (yes, lower case 's' for a reason) and included a copy of letters that they sent me two months ago that stated that they would not support any gun control measure.

tell 'em you'll vote for any Dem or Libertarian that runs against them. Better to endure a Dem for a few years and send the message that voting anti-gun is the kiss of death. Some things we can agree to disagree on. This ain't one of them.

Chambliss says he isn't running again....we'll see.......
I told Isakson (in a polite manner) that I'd vote for an actual jackass before I'd ever vote for him again........and that I was spreading the info on his flip to anyone who'd listen.

This is what Chambliss posted on his FB page:

Quote
A few moments ago, I voted to bring S. 649, the Firearms bill, to the Senate floor for debate.

I am very much opposed to any bill that would infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. In my opinion, the underlying bill being debated on the Senate floor violates those constitutional rights.

That said, this is a national issue that deserves a thorough Senate debate. I am not afraid to engage in this debate, and I will continue to stand up for Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

I replied:

Quote
It would have shown greater backbone to have just stood your ground and said the Second Amendment is "un-debatable".

Yep, and good for you. If he and 7 others had manned up and voted no, this would have been over. Tell him that if this passes the Senate, your vote is gone for good.

Yep. The last twenty odd years of my voting life I have chosen between the 2 major parties. What do I have to show for it? I have voted for the leser of two evils ( or the greater of two evils in BO's case, but in my defense McCain voted for this gun bill). But the point is that I am sick of it. I am sick of these people. No more. I have been betrayed and screwed by the Dems and the GOP. I hope the door does hit me in the ass on the way out. I AM GONE. Too much is enough. I will no longer vote for folks who will screw me. Please join me in voting LIbertarian. At least you can trust them as they don't give a rat's ass what you think and will tell you that to your face. ;D

From your mouth to God's ear Phil. I would rather have an in your face liberal than these clowns, as long as everyone knew it was the anti-gun vote that cost them their seat. Hell, even the liberal would get the message.

If I understand correctly, S.649 essentially has three components.  First, of course, is the UBC.  Second is the increased penalties for trafficking.  And the third component is increased grant funding for school security.  As debate ensues over contentious aspects of the UBC and the prospects for the survivability of the entire bill plummet, I think we may see that component removed so that the rest of the bill can pass.

BTW, I want to publicly thank Senator Cornyn and Senator Cruz for standing tall and voting against this assault on our liberties.

The background checks we have now are already a half a**ed registry. Why do they need the serial number if they are not keeping records. This will be a complete registry if it passes.

FQ,

Are you sure you'd rather have an in-your-face liberal? If so, try Maryland for a change! We got lots of them here, but gun supply seems to be getting thin.

While I'm not saying any of them don't deserve to be voted out, lets look at it from a different angle.  Voting to allow the bill to be voted ON is not even close to actually voting FOR the bill.  By forcing the vote sooner, there is less chance for amendments that are worse than the language already in the bill (AWB anyone?). Plus there is waning support for it anyway.  Any delays and the Brady Bunch et al have more time to sit on the desk of fence sitters.  While SAF and NRA would have the same opportunity, the momentum is currently on our side, plus it gets POTUS out of the loop too.  He can't campaign fast enough to get the pendulum to swing the other way in time.

WAIT a minute!  While 16 of the Repubicans voted for the bill ALL of the Democrats voted for it!

The Democrats are the Party of Gun Control as a matter of policy.  The Republican party is not without its wimps that want to cater to the Beltway Press so that they get invited to all the cool parties but they are on their way out.  And the leadership is NOT following the wishes of the vast majority of its members, what is needed is to oust the "Ruling Class" and elect more conservative representatives rather than take the easy way out.

With some of these people you might as well be talking to the wall .
They can not comprehend that if you vote "R" you might wind up with a good guy like Cruz, or you might wind up with a RINO like McCain.
But if you vote a "D" you are voting for a Party platform that specifies that it hates your guns.
As for voting "L", these chumps have been doing that for years and the only State that has elected a 3rd party candidate is Vermont, and they vote with the Dems.

When any of the Senators say that the issue deserves floor discussion, ask them when they will be bringing up the re-legalization of slavery, disallowing women the vote and repealing the 1st Amendment up for a floor discussion.

When they answer that that would be totally unconstitutional, unAmerican and wrong, tell them they are starting to understand the problem you have with their vote.

When someone talks about low vote count and disparages the party that did not draw vote, I like to mention that in 1936 or somewhere near then, 96% of the Germans voted to give Hitler unlimited power.

That big vote count did not make them right.

And only 4% vote count for the opposition surely did not make them wrong.

It  made them the only ones who could see what was happening and vote otherwise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933

It was the Reichstag, not the German people who gave Hitler that power in 1933.

the final vote was 444 supporting the Enabling Act to 94 (all Social Democrats) opposed. The Reichstag had adopted the Enabling Act with 83% of the deputies; even if all SPD deputies had been present, it would have still passed with 78.7% support. After the Reichsrat had also given its approval, the Act was signed into law.
