i am just wondering how many of you carry your gun plus 1? if yes, do you drop the mag and top off or does it come from another mag? I always just carry what ever the mag holds. I figure droping the mag to top off/ change adds another point where I could screw up.
-
I used to carry full capacity then top off the mag.But then king cuomo passed the 7 round max for magazines so now I carry the mag with 7 and top off for 8 in the 1911 plus 4 spare mags (I used to carry 2 spare 8 round plus the 9 in the gun) ;D ;D
-
Always carry +1. Just drop and top. Follow the 4 rules and nothing bad happens ;D

i am more worried about the gun not going bang. Or bang, click
-
Why would it do that?
-
I carry/compete with +1. If a stage only requires 6 rounds I top off just to be sure no matter what. I don't like USPSA and IDPA because they limit what I can carry. I wouldn't do it in the REAL world, why do it in IDPA where it's supposed to represent real life?

Go to the range and run your normal carry magazines with your normal carry ammo and see what happens. Its always +1 for me.
I usually top off from a separate magazine making sure that I use the same round. When I see or suspect any set-back that round goes to the range and I replace it with a fresh one.
-
+1 for me in my LCP that I carry a lot, because we're talking such limited capacity. I also shoot it about once a month too.
In my other two main defensive guns with larger capacities (G17 and G23) I actually back off 1 round so as not to stress the magazine. They are kept loaded for long periods and aren't exercised nearly as much.

I always carry plus 1. (plus second mag)
Gun ALWAYS goes bang the first time I pull the trigger.
If you get a Glock, you will know this to be true.

I, too, always carry +1, and often with a spare magazine. I've numbered all my magazines and rotate out which magazine is in use. When I get to the range I always shoot the magazine that I was carrying that week before switching to less-expensive practice ammo.
-
Always +1.
I have never had a failure with this practice and have always had that extra round available.
I tend to think in terms of options...and that extra round gives me another chance to save my life.

+1000000000 ;D

not if you don't insert the mag all the way.

not if you don't insert the mag all the way.
Even if you insert it the right way, you could be in trouble if you inserted the rounds in backwards.
-
After hundreds of reloads under the clock, and over a hundred in competition I am pretty confident on what a seated mag feels/sounds like and an admin reload is a gimme. My XDM has always gone bang every time I've pulled the trigger and that is with a stead diet of my reloads. I use the same gun I carry in competition which isn't too common but I don't think I would carry something unless I had a few 'sessions' under stress both reloading and malfunction drills which is not something I would have considered a few years ago-another benefit of competition.

What he said.
I have 20+ years of "+1" loading for my CCW guns (1911 Commander with Wilson 8 rnd mags and a Glock 27 with mag extension so I actually get +2 carry).......so far, so good.
Seat the mag properly = no problems.
-
not if you don't insert the mag all the way.
If you don't think you can seat the mag the second time as opposed to the first maybe you should carry a bat.
-
THe point is we all can make a mistake. Then again there is also the issue of what do you do with the plus 1, when you disarm? I don't like to leave a gun loaded when its not in my control nor do I like a lose round just floating around. While working I may have to disarm several times a day.

Put it in your shirt pocket.

Full mag, chamber a round, top off mag.
-
No.

I always carry +1 in my SD sidearm. I have little doubt that if I didn't.......what with Murphy's Law being in full effect.......that final round would be the one I'd need to save my ample ass in a serious social encounter if I DIDN'T have it.
-
NO, carry x-mag & do tactical reload should it be needed
-
I always carry +1 in my SD sidearm.
Me too, I will not reduce my ready supply of ammo.
Frosty may have hit on an easy workaround for TAB. Load, change mag, then use the spare mag as a -1.
Gives TAB a place to put his chambered round when he needs to disarm since he doesn't like to have it loose.

I always carry my handgun with a FULL mag and a chambered round. My ARmags get loaded with 28. If you slap a fresh mag in the pistol from skide lock the rounds won't fly out. But they might with an AR. Plus the mag seats much surer with a 2 down load.

What limit are you referring to?
-
What limit are you referring to?
Production only allows 10 rounds in the magazine (11 total in the gun if starting from loaded position) in USPSA and IDPA only allows 10 rounds in the magazine.
As to the topic I've never heard anyone that was involved in a firefight say they had too much ammunition but I have heard several instances where they did not have enough.
-
JoeG, in USPSA Production and Limited 10 divisions and IDPA Stock Service a competitor can start with 10 +1 even if the pistol I am using has a higher capacity. All part of the game but not real life.
