Title: Rate'm
Post by: Jrlobo on May 31, 2013, 04:46:37 PM
In your opinion how do the AR-10's from each of these manufacturers/assemblers rate (1 through 5): DPMS, S&W, Bushmaster, FNH and Rock River? I've seen quite a bit of info and opinions on the AR-15's from these guys, but not too much on the Ar-10's. Any experience with them?

What? No Armalite mention? They did kinda start the platform,.... ::)

They are the F-530 version of the AR15. I didn't think S&W made a AR10, they are Stag anyway. I was going to build an AR10 this summer, like I did my AR15 two years ago.

I was going to duplicate the LWRC REPR, (Rapid Engagement Precision Rifle) MSRP was well over $3000. (closer to 4).

BUT a lower here,  a parts kit there, a barrel here, and upper there, UNTIL .308/7.62x51 went to OVER a buck a rd.

One can certainly rate bells and whistles of one manufacturer over another, but it's still just a more expensive AR to shoot.

Hell, those CETME FNFAL clones work great, and member deepwater approved.. ::)

Not an AR-10 guy but Armalite, much to my son in laws dismay, cannot use aftermarket parts groups from different manufacturers.

Mike found out the hard way that nearly everything needed to come from Armalite to build his rifle.  It's a tack driver for sure but it cost him considerably more than his budget allowed after he bought the lower.  I've shot it and it's a fine rifle but the damn thing weighs 13 lbs with the bull barrel!

Caveat Emptor and do your homework..

My Remmy R-25 is a DPMS in 308.
Great rifle but heavy - and the Krieger M-110 barrel just added some more. What a creampuff to shoot though!  ;D
Shoots VERY well and the weight doesn't stop me from lugging it around but it does wear on you at the end of a long day.

DPMS/ Panther Arms seems to be the most versatile , CMMG makes lowers for either Armalite pattern or DPMS pattern and they use inexpensive mags.

Correctly speaking, the only "AR 10" is the Armalite which is a copyrighted designation, the others are ".308 caliber AR's".
