Reading a novel I ran across reference to a "battery powered Generator", it reminded me of the "automatic revolvers" of old crime fiction.

Maybe they are thinking of a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) ? They store a charge in battery then if the main power goes out the battery power is converted back to 120VAC.
Or, most likely, they are just talking out of their ......

The context was a bunch of camping supplies .
The "battery powered Generator" was going to run a small TV.
I think I know what he means, but the oxymoron of the phrase caught my attention.

It's just an ol' Inverter.
Than again our Gov't paid "BIG BUCKS" for "Multi-Directional-Impact-Devices" so maybe it works in the book better.
